WASHINGTON – The Senate has approved almost $4.6 billion to settle long-standing claims brought by American Indians and black farmers against the government.

The money has been held up for months in the Senate as Democrats and Republicans squabbled over how to pay for it. The two class action lawsuits were filed over a decade ago.]/
The comment section is interesting reading...

The bill passed Friday would be partially paid for by diverting dollars from a surplus in nutrition programs for women and children ......"

Raid anything to pay the Special Interests.....I mean, theyve been burning their 'reparations' down for almost 50 years now, and whatevers left is almost uninhabitable...and the Indians, didnt they pretty much sell themselves out for casinos and shyt? NOW, everyone owes them something, and it'll be taken from the people who can least afford it!
Why not take it from the Invaders college funds? Or the Entitlement clsses welfare funds? Or the entitleent classes Affirmative Action programs....let THEM share some of the cost of keeping this country alive!!!

Well I was robbed by Countrywide Mortage, and Merryll Lynch...and lost my house, my job, and my husband...maybe I should sue the government for not protecting my...maybe I was robbed because I was white...get off it... I am so tired of the poor me attitudes by people for misdeeds that were done years and years ago, next illegal immigrates will be suing because their welfare stopped. And I am sure somehow and myself and every other struggling American is going to be fitting this bill... I think the senators who voted for it should be paying for it

See if you can find one that's served in Congress.  I hear they supply their own fertilizer.

If you drill down into the sordid details of this class action........back when it was decided there were only a few hundred possible eligible recipients in the country, then the politicians got involved.

The result was travelling barbecues all throughout the south signing folks up with fake addresses and such........seems like they found several hundred applicants with "inner city" addresses, that had never even SEEN a farm, let alone worked on one, or owned it.

Apparently this is one of the biggest welfare scams of the century so far, and absolutely no one is questioning it.......of course......

One of the folks eminently involved in this little scam is the one and only Shirley Sherrod, recently fired by the USDA for comments taped and aired, in part, by Andrew Breitbart.

She and her ilk (mostly her husband) filed a $1 Billion (yes, that's "b" as in billion) lawsuit against the USDA and was awarded $13 million for her organization (poor black farmers, ostensibly) and a cool $300K for herself and her husband.

She's dropped off the radar since her little jaunt back in July, but there is no denying her involvement in scams of this nature.

I wonder if we could get away with just giving them all "40 acres and a mule", and cutting them loose forever.......it would be a hell of a lot cheaper.......

Well, adjusting for inflation since that was first mentioned, it now comes to 4,000 acres, a $350,000 combine and a $250,000 JD tractor....plus a little seed money of course.

It might still be a bargain for the taxpayers, in the long run.......

If we could cut out the middle men (lawyers, judges and courts) and you'd probably be right.

Lawmakers Warn $1.2 Billion Payout to Black Farmers Rife With Fraud

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/11/23/lawmakers-warn-billion-payout-black-farmers-rife-fraud/?test=latestnews

Quote
A handful of Republican lawmakers is warning against Congress approving a massive discrimination settlement that passed the Senate last week despite concerns the claims process may have been marred by thousands of potentially fraudulent applications.

Just before breaking for Thanksgiving recess, the Senate approved by voice vote a $4.6 billion package to settle claims against the government by black farmers and American Indians. The payments to black farmers account for $1.2 billion of that amount but have been the subject of intense criticism.

Lawmakers raising alarm about the payments say whistleblowers from the Department of Agriculture have come to them in confidence to warn that the money is going to claimants who don't deserve it.
Want to make a bet they do nothing to stop this fraud?

Nope....... they won't do a damned thing. If they were to try, the "racist"word would be flung about profusely.

Nope....... they won't do a damned thing. If they were to try, the "racist"word would be flung about profusely.

Not only will the left claim racism, but they would say that the amount of the fraud is so small that it's a negligible amount.  They said the same thing about fraud for Cash for Clunkers, and fraudulent claims against BP .
