About a militia to join.
First who are the top 3 people in that organisation. For $25 bucks you can find out if they have any police records or unstable--DWI convictions lately etc.
Ask about what their purpose is, town defence or personal.
Are there any professionals in the group, fireman, EMT's , EX military with survivalist training.
Check the meetings, do they check out maps of the area for possible trouble and discuss different kinds of actions they could be valuable in helping.??------Or is this in fact a social group that just cleans their guns, drinks and beats their wives.?
Do they work with the local police friends to have some idea of hot spots in the area.
Do they insist all members have first aid training for them and family.? Do they insist all members have at least 50 hours of training with fire arms.??
Does this group do a back ground check on YOU.???
Does the group instill in the members that they are the last resort when something happens, first the police , then the National Guard, then the Military when all fails then and only then do they make a move.?
Local militias are there not just to shoot at what they perceive is an enemy, they are there to help the public as a last resort. They have to know where food is stored, where people can find shelter from an enemy or the weather. Where to find clean water, medical help for people in a circumstance that is unthinkable. They have to know the terrain to know how to safely evacuate 500 people to safe areas.
There are two within 50 miles of my area that I stumbled on when we belonged to a Sportsman Club. I overheard a conversation between two men in their 60's about the Militia of today that were as dangerous to the public as street gangs.
It was not from them I learned but others at the club. One never knows who belongs to the REAL MALITIA, but one must have a skill to get in. A desire to undergo training in stuff other then shooting their gun at something.
Using a weapon is the last thing they want to do however they are well practiced in that skill.
Choose a group carefully, or you may be the first to get killed in a bad situation.
