We bought one a couple of years ago, only to now regret it, given how much better the graphics are on the PS and Xbox. And now, they've both come out with the same motion detecting capability that Wii started with.

If it weren't for the fact that we've sunk a sh*tload of money into Wii games, we'd make the switch in a heartbeat.

Just my opinion.

Yeah, the Kinect looks pretty cool.  I guess I should have said I want an "interactive video game playing device."

But, I really really want a chainsaw.   :-)

Because I have trees in my yard that have branches I cannot saw off with a bowsaw.  I have been told "Don't worry about it, so and so has a chainsaw, we will get him to come over and take care of it."  That ain't happened.  It really isn't enough to pay someone to do it, just a few dead branches here and there, and some shaping of some shrub/trees that have become a little unruly.  

Essentially guys, I want a chainsaw so I can do the work myself, or have someone that knows how to operate a chainsaw, to come over and help me with it.    

If I got a Food Processor, and a Kinect, and my trees still look the same come spring, I will still be bitching about wanting a chainsaw.

A couple-three months ago I bought an 18V Black & Decker (yeah, yeah, I know it's not a Stihl) chainsaw which I used on 6 inch gate posts (trimmed off the tops, which were too long). I think I paid maybe $80 for the damned thing.

No 2-cycle engines, no exhaust, no spark plugs, no carburetors, just enough power for small jobs like you're describing.

I bought mine at Lowe's.  :II:

Now, what's all this got to do with the damned Doghouse???

Thank you Euph.  That is exactly what I want.  And as it relates to the dammed Doghouse......I would NOT put someone in the Doghouse for getting something practical.  I may just, if I got jewelry I don't need, when I need a chainsaw.   :-)

I have  a Ryobi 18 V Chainsaw. It cut through 8" elm trees with little problem. It does eat through the battery power, though. I've also used it on dry wood, it's a little less power consuming.

I got pots & pans for Christmas one year.  Many women were scandalized, and were actively angry with Hub#1.  But they were a full set of cast irons, they're freaking great.  I had asked for them. 

Now, don't get me a vacuum cleaner.  A chainsaw I can understand perfectly.

Yep.  Those little battery pack chainsaws are the ticket.  If you have self control...

The problem is that once you learn to use one, you start seeing lots of things that need sawed!  You start volunteering to help people put up wood for the winter.  First the elderly, maybe a single mom or two.  Pretty soon it doesn't matter, you just want to use that saw!  There go your weekends.  Your housework suffers, but your arms look killer.

I wasn't referring to the kickback guard. I was talking about the "bits & pieces" guard.... Dry wood, such as gate posts don't wear as much on the batteries as a branch on a live tree. (dead branches excluded) I think I picked up my battery powered chainsaw for $39 or $49. I can't remember any more. It was too cheap to pass up at the time.

I have a Craftsman Gas Powered 18" chainsaw, too. The battery one is light, quiet and easier to use for small jobs.
