I have no dog in this race beyond hating bigotry but do not understand why this is allowed. Here is a relevant link.http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...I've read in this topic that since christians are a majority broadbrushing the group doesn't count. I've read, in this topic, that christians are evil, etc etc.I've read in this topic that this is simply reporting the news, objectively vs subjectively. However, the OP starts by discussing bullying (for a girl's name) but then the article seems to throw in this line for the seeming purpose, to me, of slanting emotions "After a Fellowship of Christian Students meeting, four girls and a boy surrounded her". Aside from being unclear as to who was at this meeting, the beaten and/or the assaulters, it changes the slant to an entirely different thing.Bigotry is bigotry and I don't understand why threads like this, or even JUST this one, are allowed.Enlightenment would help, thanks.

But I don't think we need to go overboard and disallow every post that might paint some Christians in a bad light. That is a post about bullying. When bullying happens, it is often perpetrated by people who are part of the "majority" in order to humiliate someone who is a minority or whom they perceive as different. Since the majority or mainstream culture here in the United States is straight, white, and christian, bullying is often perpetrated by people who are members of those groups. It's not because they are straight, white, or christian. It's because they are privileged to be considered "normal," and privileged to be part of the majority.Christians also enjoy the additional privilege in that they are assumed to be "moral" or "good." Even the word "Christian" is taken to mean "moral" or "good." We are told that religion is supposed to teach morality and that it is supposed to make people less likely to perpetrate acts of barbarism like this.I know that sometimes it can be difficult to be a Christian, or a religious believer, here on DU. Especially because the most conservative elements of our society often wrap themselves in the mantle of Christianity as justification for their worst excesses.Liberal Christians need not take offense when DUers condemn the actions of the most ignorant and conservative Christians. You are not the same as the monsters who perpetrated this crime, and everyone here knows it.

Unfortunately topics like that end up being about bigotry, not about bullying Or enough posts in them are. It is a fallacy to post "christians are the shits" (for example) simple because the "majority or mainstream culture here isn the US is straight, white, and christian" and "bullying is ofter perpetrated by people who are members of those groups".I assume from what you write that posts expressing bigotry towards even a majority are fine to alert on.Again, I have no dog, religion, spirituality, or lack thereof, in this race, beyond that of hating bigotry of any group.

I read the thread this refers to, and I almost blew a gasket. I can't believe Skinner allows that to stand.
If that thread was about any group other than Christians - It would have been disappeared faster than the buffet at a michael moore conference.
