Kansas Family Is Selling Five Year Old's Drawings To Pay For His Chemotherapy

http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/kansas-family-selling-five-year-olds-

This story made me really, truly sad about my country. That a family has to sell their sick kid's drawings to pay for chemo, and that they still have to worry about paying for treatment when their child needs their full attention? I think it's great that people want to help (because that's the part of my country that still gives me hope) but this is exactly the same kind of situation about which right-wing "heroes" like Rush Limbaugh are so very thoughtless and cruel:

3. This story is all over local media

and it's being played as a sweet wonderful heartwarming story.

And I was wondering if I was the only one who wanted to scream.

4. Nope...

...it's tragic. The parents' love for the kid and their resourcefulness in finding a way to provide for his medical care is heartwarming, but the conditions that put them in a position to do that make me want to scream as well.

8. I want to scream and pull my hair out.

This is beyond immoral or obscene. What is WRONG with people who read something like this that doesn't make them WANT Universal Health Care, Public Option - something to end the madness of health care for profit
.

{side note: the vast majority of American healthcare is Not-For-Profit}

True, it's not the worst, but it should be far better.

Now, Aidan's family...

Thank You

The response and support our family has received is simply amazing. Through the donations and sale of Aidan’s art, the family has been able to avoid financial ruin. The family had considered the sale of their home, and Aidan’s father began to look for a 2nd job to offset the impact of the additional medical expense.

However, due to the tremendous outpouring of support we have received; the family has been able to offset current medical and loss wage expense. Given the demand for Aidan’s art and the uncertainty that awaits us on the road to curing Aidan from leukemia, we have elected to continue to offer his art for sale. All of the proceeds generated from the sale will still go to Aidan and his family to prepare for future medical expense. Our family felt it morally important to share that your support has been more than we could have ever anticipated, and we wanted to thank you for everything.

BTW, there are links for both donations and purchases of Aidan's Art on the page.

  • Where are you going? I was gonna make espresso!
I think it's a great idea.  Even if the child's medical insurance takes care of most/all of their needs, there are still others that aren't, where facilities like Ronald McDonald House, etc., step in to help.

Yes, DUmmies--what a horrible story to you--a kid and his family are doing for themselves instead of letting "da gub'mint provide"...just a great big "**** you" to your ideas and policies.  So suck it.  Suck it long and hard.

Yea he's totally thoughtless and cruel when it comes to leukemia.

Leukemia and lymphoma telethon

Limbaugh holds an annual fundraising telethon called the "EIB Cure-a-Thon" for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In 2006, the EIB Cure-a-Thon conducted its 16th annual telethon, raising $1.7 million, totaling over $15 million since the first cure-a-thon. According to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society annual reports, Limbaugh personally contributed between $100,000 and $499,999 from 2000–2005 and 2007, and Limbaugh claims to have contributed around $250,000 in 2003, 2004 and 2005.NewsMax reported Limbaugh donated $250,000 in 2006, and the Society's 2006 annual report placed him in the $500,000 to $999,999 category.Limbaugh donated $320,000 during the 2007 Cure-a-Thon which the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society reported had raised $3.1 million. On his radio program April 18, 2008, Limbaugh claimed to pledge $400,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society after being challenged by two listeners to increase his initial pledge of $300,000.

So how much did little Susie Mandrak of Crooks and Liars raise?  and how much has Amerigo Vespucci raised?  how about Sanity Claws and proud2belibKansan?  How much of money have they raised?

That cruel, cruel Limbaugh out there donating out of his own pocket and encouraging others to do the same HOW DARE HE?

First off, my heart goes out to the 5 year old and his family. Hope all goes well for him.
But DUmmies, I bet 9 times out of 10, the conservatives or republicans are more quickly to give then their liberal/DUmmie counterparts. Not to say that the libs/DUmmies do not donate to charities like this, but with the way the libs are with their money?!  ::)

This is about more than money though it's the only part of this story the DUmmies see. It's about community and connecting with each other. Support isn't all about money, either. Did they ever once think of the courage it will give this young man and the strength his parents gain by knowing a whole community stands with you, prays for you and becomes invested this his recovery. Americans are generous people (but unless that generosity goes in to the government coffers DUmmies don't acknowledge its existence) and giving to another unselfishly makes people feel good. You buy a piece of this young man's art work and every time you look at it it would make you feel good about yourself and your fellow man. You just can't buy that with any single payer system. The government as a go between separates people from each other.

Anyways, good for the family for using their child's art to raise money. Hope for a speedy recovery.

You're absolutely right.  Around here, it's common to have a fundraiser at the Legion or the like, when a medical crisis happens.  People need money to drive to Syracuse all the time, babysitters, all that stuff that insurance doesn't pick up.  Imagine if you're the sick person, and you see BIG crowds of people at the Legion, there just for you.  You're gonna feel the love, and that will only do you good.  You count the money and feel it again.

Crooks and Liars is not a credible site by any stretch of the imagination I agree.

His leukemia has an over 90% cure rate, a lot of chemo though.

Or if that is too much for you, do your part for the "environment" and take your carbon footprint down to zero.

BTW, I noticed that not one of the quoted DUmbass drama queens had a link where you could either buy or donate nor did any of them buy or donate.
