I just watched the first episode last night.  It was actually pretty good.  I think it was a good compromise between shambling zombies and sprinting zombies.

The first episode was a little slow in parts, trying to draw out emotions that I couldn't or wouldn't necessarily feel during a zombie Holocaust.

One thing I find it hard to get past in certain well worn sub-genres is I have to imagine it happening in a world where there are no zombie movies.

Imagine that, a world with no Fulci!

You know, one of the reasons I love zombies is they make the best metaphors of any movie monster so they make it easy to project insane political theories onto and so, last night while I was watching, I realized that zombies are completely intolerant bastards who want one thing and only one thing: They want you to be like they are.  They're dead, they want everyone to be dead.

Which brings up the point that these zombies appear to really be dead, it isn't some stupid virus turning modifying living people's behavior.

For the most part, I like my zombies to be dead an rotting and animated for no apparent reason.  There are a few exceptions, like Quarantine and the Resident Evil movies, but the RE movies star Milla Jovovich so they're going to be good no matter what.  Anyway, my point is, I loved all the guessing in the early Romero movies about what might be causing the Zombie Apocalypse, whether it was radiation from a satellite falling back to earth or simply the fact that Hell is full, nobody is ever quite sure.

The most likely explanation for any true Zombie Apocalypse, of course, is Plan 9 from Outer Space.  It's always Plan 9 from Outer Space.

I am watching the first episode tonight with hubby!  I love zombies!  Plus it gives me great tips for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

P.S. Please tell me Dexter ends this season by roasting Lumen over a slow flame and eating her liver!  It is the only way I can watch Julia Stiles blink her way through so many more episodes! :bawl:

I love Julia Stiles.  I keep thinking this season should be called Ten Things I Hate About Dexter.

Plus Julia Stiles cares about the environment more than I do:

I hate her character as much as anyone, including Dexter and almost all of the show's audience.

That is absolutely all I am going to say on the subject of Lumen.  :-)

George Romero used all of his zombie movies as part social commentary.

I downloaded from iTunes the first episode of Walking Dead... quickly ordered the subscription and auto-downloading of each new episode, should be a great series  :cheersmate:

I am not a big zombie fan, but I am not a big vampire fan either, and I love True Blood.

The zombie movies I can recall actually liking were 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.

OK, watched the first episode over the weekend.  2nd waiting on the DVR.  It pissed me off when the black dude wouldn't shoot his zombie wife.  JUST DO IT, STOP CRYING SHE'S A ZOMBIE is what I was yelling at the TV.  Anyway, good series, looking forward to show no. 2.

(To people who haven't seen it yet but plan to:  The above is not really a spoiler).

That bugged me too.  It was too artsy, and it was strung together with the deputy going to shoot the first zombie he met.  The other thing that bugs me is what I wrote before: Nobody, so far, has ever seen a freaking zombie movie.

Walking Dead is very entertaining; BUT (and you knew there had to be a 'but' when a sentence starts out this way!) why have the writers already invoked such a hideously overused subplot (romantic triangle) -- it's the second episode, for crying out loud!

And as for Dexter, Lumen definitely needs to be extinguished -- pun intended!  :-)

My husband and I discussed this.  We're both in agreement that if at any time either of us become a walking flesh-eater, we are to shoot the other in the head.  That my friends is what LOVE is all about.  Putting your significant other out of their misery.

Oh, absolutely!!! The lovely and talented wife and I long ago agreed to a tontine wherein we each swear to blast the living shit out of the other, should the other prove to be afflicted with "zombieism."

Of course, given the distrustful nature of being married to a psychotic, the beautiful wife insists I pass into slumber first, each night.

I think her and Dex should get married.  Maybe I should start an Internet Lumen fan club.

Some of you will notice that Dexter has been presented with a very interesting choice regarding Lumen:

1) He has the opportunity to satisfy the "Dark Passenger," while finally finding someone (living, mind you) who accepts him (remember, he's also introduced her to Harrisson) for who and what he is...

2) He can continue to try and keep her at arm's length, only to have her end up dead because of he wasn't willing to commit.

Yes, there were plenty of supposed plot-holes in the last episode, but I encourage you to remember Dexter's relationship with Harry, his brother AND Trinity.

Just when you think you've got it nailed, you probably don't.  :-)

That is one of my favorite things about the show.  That and even when I know Dex isn't really in any danger of being exposed I somehow feel he is.

This is why I think the whole "meteor hitting the earth" thing is a myth.  Obviously, the aliens who seeded us here wanted the dinosaurs dead so the released the dino-zombie plague, and when they get tired of us, it's Plan 9 from Outer Space all over again.

Saw last night's episode, and I'm getting a little bummed.

You'd think they'd keep somebody on lookout during the fish fry.

And why didn't our heros steal another truck or two to escape Atlanta?????
