Unforgettable starring Ray Liotta from 1996.  This movie is very much like an Italian giallo from what I remember.

Since we're talking BBC (Mrs E is fervently addicted to it), Little Britain is chock-full of classic British humor, gut-busting in its cleverness.

I always thought that Pacino in Scarface was incredibly good. How he was able to gradually lose his Cuban "accent" through a megafilm (I think it ran about 3 hours) while shooting out of sequence is a testament to his skills as an actor.
.

Not many people pick up on that, Euph, but it is, indeed, testament to Pacino's chops.

The guy is scary good as an actor.

And again...

I know we've discussed this in another thread, but each and every one of Guy Ritchie's British gangster/crime pics are nothing short of masterpieces.

Ruthless People - (Danny Devito, Bette Midler)...a little gem about what happens when a gazillonaire husband won't pay his kidnapped frumpy wife's ransom....great twist at the end!

She Devil - (Meryl Streep, Roseanne Barr) ... funny scorned wife revenge story, especially that it's over Ed Begley, Jr  :rotf:

They're not exactly underrated, but a couple of oldies I've re-watched lately that faded from memory but are nonetheless still powerful dramas are King Rat and Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? Both have an actor that was seriously underrated in George Segal, and Woolf has Burton and Taylor at the peak of their acting chops.

Others might include:

The Pope Of Greenwich Village - Eric Roberts has always been a much better actor than his more famous sister Julia, IMHO.

Galaxy Quest - Little sci-fi comedy gem. Alan Rickman as a former Shakespearean actor reduced to doing Trekkie-like conventions is hilarious.

Clash Of The Titans - The original, not that remake shite.

Mutiny On The Bounty - The 1962 version with Brando as Fletcher Christian. Nominated for seven Academy Awards but didn't win a single one, which was a travesty.

The Four Seasons - Comedy/drama in which four couples who take all their vacations together face the insecurities of growing older. Carol Burnett is great.

1941 - Almost universally hated by critics, but one of my all-time favorite comedies. Beware, there are two versions out there. One has a bunch of mindlessly unfunny crap but the second is more tightly edited and that makes all the difference. It's a crapshoot which one you might see/buy.

The Chronicles Of Riddick - Vin Diesel can't act for shit, but when you can kill a guy with a tin cup and soothe giant alien lion-like creatures, who needs it? Epic sci-fi villains in the form of the Necromongers.

Tom Horn - Pretty good western with Steve McQueen in top form. He died just a few months after its release.

Yes, I liked that one a lot even though I am not a big fan of Keanu Reeves.

I watched Fritz Lang's Metropolis this week.  The newly restored version.  It was way better than I remember that old public domain VHS being.

I found it to be a very interesting and well-made movie.

Have you ever seen the restored version of "The Battleship Potemkin?" Really great film with a soundtrack written by Tennant and Lowe of the Pet Shop Boys.

I never even heard of this one. I will watch for it on TCM now.

For some reason, this reminds me that a few years ago, a silent movie was made based on H. P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu.  Highly recommended.

It was directed by Sergei Eisenstein, and is largely considered one of the greatest propaganda films ever made (It presents a dramatized version of the mutiny that occurred in 1905 when the crew of the Russian battleship Potemkin rebelled against their officers of the Tsarist regime).

It's actually in the public domain, so I wouldn't be surprised if it could be found as a free download somewhere.
