We're sorry for claiming Captain Kirk was in command of Captain Picard's starship

Yesterday, a news.com.au article incorrectly stated that the Star Trek starship USS Enterprise-E, otherwise known as model NNC-1701-E, was the successor to Captain Kirk's original USS Enterprise.

It has since been brought to our attention that the NNC-1701-E in fact came two models after Captain Kirk retired and was under the command of Captain Jean Luc Picard.

User "Your Mum's Lunch" led the charge of those who correctly pointed out that after losing the original Enterprise to the Klingons, Captain Kirk was given the Excelsior Class Enterprise-B as a stop-gap measure until the refit of the Enterprise-A was completed.

We also agree that Patrick Stewart is a handsome man, a sentiment expressed by several readers.

There's even a poll where you can vote for your favorite starship.  I voted Galaxy class, the Caddillac of the Federation.

So who's the bigger loser?  Them for making it, or you for noticing it?  Shit, you probably even know what NCC means.

The "NC" was taken from an airplane's side number. The additional "C" was added to make it look more "cool"....

Yup. According to Matt Jefferies, who created the interiors and exterior of the Enterprise, the "C" was tacked on for no real reason.

I've always been partial to this one - the one Riker commanded in STTNG's final episode.

To paraphrase Danny Vermin in Johnny Dangerously: "It shoots through schools ships..."

I have also seen the explanation for NCC standing for the Naval Construction Contract number. That means that for each number given to the ship,in this case,1701 that was the  1701 ship in the run starting with NCC-1700 on up.However the previous explanation is what most people go with.

I used to wonder, if you don't have a cloaking device, why not at least paint it flat black(deep space camouflage?).... :rotf:

Because all those exciting space battles would be hard to see on your TV.

Years ago I did see someone build the original Enterprise and the Klingon ship for a contest and he had painted both of them in a "SPACE CAMOFLAGE" . They both looked ok but with stars and planets painted all over it just did.t look like it would work once they started moving around.
