screen captures for election night
« on: October 28, 2010, 11:44:38 AM »
I've been wafting back-and-forth between Skins's island and some real-life stuff here, and I'm starting to get concerned.

Some of us know how--sort of--to "screen capture" things off of Skins's island so as to preserve them after my fellow alum Skins uses his great big eraser.

But it appears we're going to need a lot of people doing some "screen capturing" of the primitives on election night; more than what we've had before.

Can someone please post their "screen capture" tips for handy reference?

On windows I hit "alt" and "print screen" together then from the start menu open "paint" in the accesories.
Click on edit and then click paste.
From there I click on file and "save as"
Make sure you move it to documents and in the jpg format.

Once there can upload to photobucket.

Thank you, sir; that's exactly what I wanted.

I knew there was one somewhere, but didn't want to have to be directing people outside the DUmpster election night, to it.  This information needs to be within reaching distance, and your link does it.

Thanks, Ralph, for the tips.

And a GREAT big hand for the coach, who had enough foresight to anticipate the need for us to step up to the plate!  :cheersmate:

If you are running either Vista or Windows 7 you can use the built in Snipping tool (Accessories, Snipping Tool). You can select an area of the screen and subsequently save it as a .jpg. Once you have the jpeg it can be easily uploaded to CC. This will get you out of the need to paste into a word processing program/powerpoint before posting the image.

If you use firefox you can download an extension like screen grab or fireshot. I love fireshot, it's one of those extensions I can't live without.

I think I'm still too young in my Cave Years to do anything like this yet, and I'm an imbecile when it comes to delving into computer processes/knowhow. However, you all can rest assured that I will do my part.  :evillaugh:

Can't pictures be uploaded directly if they are small enough?

Yeah, but they show up as a thumbnail, and you have to click on the image to see it.  It loses a bit of it's punch that way.

I use picasa because there aren't the space restrictions.

I ran into space restrictions on Flickr and stopped using it.  I switched to Photobucket and have been watching my bandwidth since I posted pictures of the car show.  I've had 4,600 separate image views and barely dented my bandwidth allowance.

I'll have to try it. Picasa is so hard to link to sometimes.
