I'm wondering who slapped franksolich.
for speaking of yourself in the third person
*slap*
Now, I already explained this first-person, third-person thing, I think, to the nocturnally foul one.
It has to do with modesty.
If I do something really stupid, I comment "I ****ed up."
If I do something remarkable, I comment, "franksolich did this extraordinary thing."
A corollary to that is if I make a statement of fact about myself, but it looks as if I'm boasting, I use the third person, because I'm just making a statement of fact, and don't want anybody to take it as boasting.
I was taught this by my 5th-grade teacher, Genevieve O'Meara, and I noticed later that many of the Founding Fathers, in their
personal correspondence did the same thing, and when it comes to good manners, the Founding Fathers are great exemplars.
It has to do with modesty.
