Oh my.

Disclosure: franksolich is rather fond of Doug's stupid ex-wife, and so bends over backwards to present her in the best possible light--I just wanted to be sure everybody's aware of my bias.

Chavez backs Iran 'under any circumstances'

Visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez vowed on Tuesday to back ally Tehran "under any circumstances," as his Iranian counterpart praised Caracas for fighting sanctions against the Islamic republic.

"Venezuela will remain alongside Iran under any circumstances," Chavez, who is on his ninth visit to the Iran, told President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during a meeting, according to the presidency website.

"Venezuela seriously considers cooperation with Iran as a holy matter," he said, adding that "independent nations" can join forces to "strengthen our power in facing imperialists."

Chavez has been trying to bolster his international standing as he continues to spar openly with the United States, an arch-foe of Iran.

Iran doesn't run the largest open air prison in the world and the largest mass graves on the American continent weren't found in Venezuela.

33. I was actually pointing out the hypocrisy on skates of damning Iran when our so called allies engage in behavior that is similar or worse. Somewhere around here there are statistics for rape of Palestinians in Israeli jails but that would likely get the thread locked.

44. But that's not what the thread is about

All you were trying to do is derail the topic by using the "look over there" method that is so popular with republicans. It put you in the position of having to defend a regime that held a dirty vote, jailed the protesters of that vote, a country that hangs its gays (when it isn't denying they exist in the first place). All because you have a soft spot for Chavez.

48. Oh, that's exactly what this thread is about. Damning Chavez for supporting Iran. That isn't "look over there", that's putting the context back that this article tries to strip away.

And, btw, you did hear about the FBI raids on peace activists in several states, right?

12. US blanket support for the Saudis, for Colombia, for Israel, fine.

Obama and Hillary's surrogates have called Colombia our best friend in Latin America -- Colombia, who has the second largest number of internally displaced people in the world and whose ex-president is implicated in wiretapping his opposition, the judiciary, in setting right wing paramilitaries and their chainsaws on the Colombian people. Best friends!

Chavez's support for Iran, bad.

Not much "thought" is required to sniff out the self serving hypocrisy in these positions.

14. No, not at all.

It's not hypocrisy. I don't own US policy on other countries, and do leave room to criticize when necessary - including the current admin. However, that wasn't what this news story was about at all.

Have to be careful not to excuse bad behavior by pointing to bad behavior. That can lead you down a path of defending something that is indefensible.

However, given that this is going to happen here anyway, and now has, I'll leave the remainder of the thread to those who wish to reply to the story at hand - and others who wish to debate the current admins foreign policy.

Well damn....guess what?...I learned something from the DUmmies. When confronted by a DUmmies use the "Look over there" method....then follow through with a blunt instrument to the head and shoulders.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I think Frank is in love with her convoluted thought process......if you want to call it that.   :-)

Well, it's true Doug's stupid ex-wife isn't what she used to be, seeing as how she's to turn 55 years old in six weeks.

She's put on some poundage, lardage, and the drugs she takes make her look puffy.

But I'll never forget the first time I saw a photograph of her, taken in the mid-1990s, when she was still thin and lithe and glowing and sharp; and along with her northern Mediterraneac features, there were her long slender fingers and a wonderful aquiline honker.

Being a romantic, franksolich tends to see women as they were, or are, at their best, no matter the passage of time and erosion of age and addition of flab.  The wife of the guy who used to mow the grass here, for example, is 82 years old, wrinkly, and circa 300 pounds--but I still see her as she was in 1944, an exquisitely fine young woman.

I know.  I'm odd.  But one can't help being the way one is.

Well, it's true Doug's stupid ex-wife isn't what she used to be, seeing as how she's to turn 55 years old in six weeks.

Oh no, please don't tell me that we share the same birthday? when's her birthday? seems like we're both Sagittarius.

It's some time between December 1 and December 5; it's been a while since I looked it up.

Well Coach, I gotta tell ya, me and Toots were a helluva lot thinner back in the day, too!

This pic is about 30 years ago!

Mind y'all, we have changed considerable! For instance, they now say I look more like a "Mad Russian', so I doubt I can be identified by this photo! Just in case yer worried about identity stalkers!

I've put on more than a few pounds and "Toots", well, we'll just forget about that one! After all, ya never discuss a woman's weight, it just ain't healthy! Let's leave it as we're both within 50 lbs!

I should add, before I get the shit stomped outa me, the sweatshirt doesn't give her justice! ya shoulda seen her in the "hot pants" outfit I bought her when she was still in high school!!! WOWZA!!!! Lets just say I'd have to beat most of you perverts off with a baseball bat, and she just turned 53!

ETA: Oh, and there's nuttin' wrong with bein' born in the 50's! It just depends on which path you chose in the 60's!

To each his own, but the last time I checked, nobody has figured out how to turn lead in to gold.
