NJ school superintendent to surrender to FBI on corruption charges

More than four hours after federal agents tried to arrest him at home, Toms River Superintendent Michael J. Ritacco is en route to the FBI’s office in Newark where he will surrender to face political corruption charges, according to his lawyer.

Ritacco's pending surrender comes three days after an insurance broker and a former school official told a federal judge they padded contracts by hundreds of thousands of dollars and used part of the money to pay bribes to a district executive. Authorities did not publicly name the executive, but two people with knowledge of the investigation identified him as Ritacco. ...

Superintendents serve at the will of the school board -- usually though with a nice 3-6 year contract, which provides them with benefits that rival CEO contracts.

Yep.  We had one in our district that got fired a year and a half into a five year contract.  The board voted to get rid of her and pay the remaining 5 years to the tune of $500,000.  The board refused to give anyone a reason.

The PA auditor called it 'troubling'.   :whatever:

They were voted out in the next election but that didn't get us our 500 grand back.
