No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I know! It went from getting all kinds of porno sites popping up, to not staying on for more than a minute before it would restart itself, to all kinds of other mess.

My husband asked me why I had all these shortcuts on my desktop to porn sites!!  :rotf:

Now you will need to guard against future malware infections. If you have Windows XP or later, always keep System Restore on. Also, download a program called HijackThis (http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/) and place the HijackThis.exe on your desktop, then rename it to iexplore.exe (you will need it to be able to run the program if you ever get infected with Ransomware; fake anti-virus software that locks you out of your system unless you pay them money).

Also, download Spybot Search And Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html) and allow it to backup your registry and keep TeaTimer on. TeaTimer is a program that has a blacklist of known malware processes and prevents them from activating. Be sure to update Spybot frequently though.

I also highly recommend Avast Antivirus (http://www.avast.com/index). The program is good at stopping malware as well.

Thanks for the info. Right now I have Kaspersky plus the Malwarebytes. I can say this much about Kaspersky... DO NOT waste your 50 bucks or whatever it cost me. Malwarebytes was what saved me.

Should I uninstall Kaspersky then do these things you've stated?

Avast's free edition will do what a lot of paid anti-virus programs will do and takes up very little system resources (it does not slow your computer down), while the paid version offers even more protection. Both the free and paid versions will prevent the malware from installing on your computer (you will get a pop-up screen that asks whether you want to delete it permanently or render it inert). Spybot and TeaTimer will run regardless if you have anti-virus software or not so definitely get that. HijackThis gives you a list of registry entries, both legit and non-legit, but read this tutorial first (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html)

If you've already bought, paid for & opened Kaspersky, keep using it until it expires. It's a pretty decent anti-virus. Don't uninstall it.

Woah! Not good. I bought mine before that date, but I did get all those funky messages. I don't think any were from Security Tool though. Still, this is good to know.

And not good at all for Kaspersky. A security company gets hacked? Yeah, I am so glad I bought from them.  ::) Never again.

Whoa. I will have to keep an eye out in case that happens to Avast's site.

Sites get hacked. Being an anti-virus site, I'll bet that someone kind of "helped" it along.... ;)
