Their problem is their compassion is just a talking point and not deeply felt. Even most of those objecting are only concerned with how it makes them look, not the sentiments behind such vile comments. If their compassion was real, the rich on their side of the aisle would give up the majority of their vast wealth (and most of the richest people are leftists) to "spread the wealth" to those less fortunate. But they don't. They would help the poor in the worst neighborhoods in their town to clean things up, help them fill out job applications, or funding to learn a skill. Instead they just scream for more money to be thrown at the system. They don't ask for accountability or that the public knows exactly where the money goes and whether the government is using the PEOPLE'S money in a way that truly makes a difference.
Same with inner city schools. Anyone who doesn't want more money thrown at this sacred cow hates kids. Never mind these schools usually get more funds per student than middle or upper class schools. Or that they deprive these children in these under performing schools of the vouchers that allow them the same quality liberals' own children get. Do they at least volunteer to read to children, start a volunteer arts program, call the school and see what tangible help they can give...crayons, glue, scissors, paper, etc.?
They're so far removed from those they think "deserve" help (well except Bobo), that they don't care to find out what these people need, instead they decide what their needs are. It's easy to tell yourself compassionate because you demand others give more to the government and anyone who doesn't want to must be mean. I'm not convinced. It's exceedingly easy to insist others give more. But allowing themselves to be removed from (or above) those truly in need they don't have sully themselves. Anyone can care as long as all that's required is platitudes and demands.
