Quote
Supreme Court Justice Alito Plans to Skip Next State of Union Address

When Supreme Court justices enter the House of Representatives in their black robes for the president's next State of the Union address, Samuel Alito does not plan to be among them.

The justice said the annual speech to Congress has become very political and awkward for the justices, who he says are expected to sit "like the proverbial potted plant."

Good for him indeed. It's humiliating for them to have to sit there like a potted plant (great description) when they represent the most powerful court in our country. The one where Justice is supposed to blind.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I'd say this is the closest a Judge can come to giving DingleBarry the middle finger.

Especially when last year, Obama berated them from the podium for the campaign finance decision......the Justices don't serve at the pleasure of the president (although he might think so), and therefore there is no need for them to be subjected to a public rebuke of their actions at the event........

Obama offends the court at his peril.....especially since most of his signature legislation will end up before them in the next three years or so.  In very real terms, his "legacy" such as it is, depends on them......

Poor judgement on Obama's part.....

After his treatment by Obama and the Democrats in the Senate, I don't blame him.

It's customary for one of the supremes to "sit out" The SOTU address anyway, is it not. for security reasons, continuity of govt etc in case of attack.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

I was surprised to read that Thomas, Scalia, Stevens, et. al., had not attended the SOTU address in the past years. Breyer, the twit, seems to think it's a requirement for all 3 branches of government to be under one roof.

Like it really makes a difference.  :whatever:

In any event, Alito is not breaking new ground by not attending SOTU.

You know how it is. He might get the urge to yell out, "You lie."
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

It'd be funnier if he called him a prick.  :-) :cheersmate:

And more accurate.
