Birthday gift
« on: October 15, 2010, 05:48:20 AM »
It is my brothers birthday this weekend and I have no clue what to give him. He is 27 and a pain in the butt to shop for help LOL

Arrange for a hot air balloon ride.  A therapeutic massage (as opposed to the recreational variety).  Detailing for his car/truck.  Professional waxing for car/truck.

If he's into hunting or fishing, it's easy, just call Cabella's and they'll give you a list of the latest and greatest in his sport.

Once several of us pitched in to get brother-in-law a race driving lesson (it was after he got cleared from cancer at a young age).

Not knowing your brother make it difficult to make any suggestions. Is he married or single? Tools are always good items. A case of really good beer is another. It kind of depends on his needs and your budget.

Yeah, tools.  If he works on anything at all, he will appreciate the quality of Craftsman.  But, they are pricey, and you might not know what they need.  Craftsman makes a bottle opener, you can get it in the tool dept at Sears.  The handle is just like the real Craftsman tools.  It doesn't have a lifetime warranty like their tools do, but nonetheless it is still pretty cool.  I got one for all the guys/boys in my life one year for Christmas, and they love em.  That, and a case of beer (bottles, of course) would be good.

Tots...... for the record, Craftsman tools are "teh suck". If you want QUALITY tools, buy Snap-On, MAC, or MATCO. The rest are junk, comparatively. I've worked on General Aviation, Military aircraft and do my own work on vehicles. Craftsman tools leave much to be desired. They will get one by, though. Their screwdrivers are especially poorly constructed.

I have heard that too.  Especially recently.  But, there is a whole mess of people that still swear they are the best.  And people that like Craftsman usually think everything else is junk.  Those people like the bottle openers.   :-)

I used to swear by Craftsman tools until I became educated. My job in general aviation really opened my eyes. I can't say how many bolt heads or nuts I've rounded off using Craftsman tools and then exactly how many phillips head screws I've stripped out. After I've used some good quality tools, it became very apparent how mediocre Craftsman tools are.

As far as the bottle openers, well, I prefer the good ol' Church Key. I DID run across this today:

One of my Armed Polite Society Forum & Facebook friends made that. He's selling them, too. They're made out of a .50 round that's been made inert. (won't fire)
