Metro TeenAIDS, a nonprofit aimed at educating children about HIV/AIDS, received a $15,000 consulting contract and $80,000 contract from DCPS in 2009 to provide programming in the schools, as well as over $750,000 in federal funding in recent years, according to FedSpending.org, a program of OMB Watch.

The program was not just for education, but for research. The letter notified parents that, by participating in the program, their child would be a “research subject” in a program funded by the federal government.

...But parents never received these warnings before the “sex test” was administered Tuesday at Hardy Middle School in Washington, DC. Only after parents demanded a meeting with Principal Dana Nerenberg and other officials were they given a copy of the actual test, two days after it was administered to 7th-graders.

Here's a sample:

What gets me is the comments:  many of which take the tack, “what’s the big deal?  I took the same test in the 80’s ... and I’m fine.”

So you’re OK with the idea that Teh Gubbmint is keeping personally traceable stats on your sex activity from age 11?  WTF is WRONG with these people?!?

What's to stop some smartass kid, upon reading the contents of the test, from putting another kid's name on it and filling it out with the 'gayest' answers possible? 

12 year olds taking a 'sex test'?  It's ridiculous and creepy!  :mental:

Yeah, integrity of the results is a huge issue with a test given to 12-year-olds (Even adults, but to a much lesser degree), and putting someone else's name on it is only one of the ways it can go awry.  A few plain old smartasses can render any test like this meaningless in no time.

Maybe I'm weird, but I'd really rather my 12 year old didn't have to answer 30 questions pertaining to (oral, anal or vaginal) sex.  I'd really sort of prefer my kid didn't know about (anal) sex, at least, at 12 years old.  I'm sure there are kids that know all about it, but I'm not at all sure that it's the school's business either way.  :(

Can't you almost hear the information that will be passed from kid to kid when this test is over?  Obviously, we can be positive that 12 year olds will 1) know enough real information that all will actually understand all the issues or 2) our schools are run by people stupid enough to believe 1).   ::) ::)
