Great joke this week about the guy who went to college on the GI Bill, started his business with an SBA loan, drove to work on Interstate highways, sent his children to public schools and had peace of mind knowing his parents had Social Security and Medicare to see them through their golden years. But he was voting Republican, because he wanted to "get the government off my back".

Typical Republican "I've been duped to vote against my own interests" mentality.

turn down assistance from the government for their own benefit but they are dead against the government helping others....

It's not that we are dead set against the Govt helping anyone truly in need. we are dead against living on the dole being a lifestyle.

The difference between us and you goons is we think people do a much better job running their own lives rather than some official in DC deciding what we need for us.

*Loan is the operative word here.  This will be paid back*

 drove to work on Interstate highways,

*Which is paid for by his taxes at an exorbitant rate*

 sent his children to public schools

*Which he is forced to pay for even if they are not good schools and he sends his kids to private schools*

 and had peace of mind knowing his parents had Social Security and Medicare to see them through their golden years.

*Which they were forced to pay for but could have had a better retirement supplement if allowed to invest their own money*

 But he was voting Republican, because he wanted to "get the government off my back".

*So yeah, I would say "Get the government off MY back!"*

Yes, because the gov't has extracted tax money from us to pay for all these things they so kindly permit us to have in return, we should desire, and even invite, the gov't to interact with us for our own good on virtually all the things we do in our daily life.  We know; slavery to the gov't is freedom.

Yep I recall the GI bill being earned. Of course you still have to fight the government to get that in any resemblance of a timely manor.
