What they miss is that those dollars are taken from people that actually produce something so they have less to spend, invest, etc.
Back in the 70's things got kinda bad at the Perky household. We actually qualified for the free lunch program. Daddy Perky refused to go on welfare and we went out to Granddad Perky's farm and planted several acres of garden to feed ourselves. "Welfare is for loser scum and we ain't loser scum!" was Daddy and Granddad Perky's comment. It drove me and Brother Perky to succeed at school so we would never be in a position like that again. Back then, being poor hurt and you did not want to be poor. Welfare was out of the question. You just did not go on welfare or you admitted your were a failure and failure was not an option.
Things are very different now. Welfare has lost it's stigma. It should hurt to be poor so your kids do not want to be in the same position.
I would like to say that no member of the Perky family was ever on welfare but I can't. My sister was on it for a time, (No fault off her own, hubby was in a bad car wreck, couldn't work and she was a stay at home mom), used it to go get a degree in nursing and the first paycheck she got she went down to the welfare office, showed them her paycheck, and politely, and very loudly I might add, told them to take their welfare and shove it up Obama's ass. Now she makes $40.00 an hour, plus 20 hrs OT a week, and will probably never be on welfare again. She was extremely embarassed to be on welfare and is making sure she will never be in that situation again.
The permanent parasite class pisses me off.
