Smoking
« on: October 09, 2010, 12:25:46 AM »
Instead of spending megabucks on commercial brand cigarettes, I've taken to rolling my own (sort of). I can buy 250 tubes (WITHOUT that nasty fire retardant crap) and a bag of tobacco for right at $13. I could probably get that stuff cheaper through the internet. I also bought a machine to inject the tobacco into the tubes. It's a little bit of work, but it's WAY cheaper and the up side is that the cigarettes don't smell as nasty as the commercial brands. Also, I can buy all natural tobacco, which has no additives or extra chemicals.

Those things are great if you have the time to make them. My ex used to do it all the time it was way cheaper when we lived overseas and had to have a ration card

I used that when I lived in SD.  There I could get good, no additive tobacco, and their taxes were so high I was encouraged to look into alternatives.

I had the experience of trying out the E-cigarette at the mall months ago.

Really odd these things, they emit water vapor so the feel and experience is not just weird but satisfying.  I got my hit of nicotine without all the other crap, saw the water vapor and Hot diggidity dog, This is great.

No more ashes or worry about setting the house afire, no more stink of tobacco on hair and clothings, I can smoke theses in restaurants and bars----I wanted that device.

Problem was, the cost $180.00 for the battery's, charger, the nicotine pellets.  The cost for the pellets was about $3.00 for twenty, half the price of most brands of cigarettes and well worth it.

I went home and called local bars and restaurants to see if these were allowed.    Most said NO.  Why I asked, they could not give me a reason, tobacco was banned but nicotine was a gray area.

People could chew tobacco in their establishments, but it is against the law to smoke it.   So I would not be smoking tobacco, there is just water vapor coming out, no fire, nothing burning.

What a mess, were a patron to call the police we could end up in jail and go through the rigamoral of proving we were not breaking the law.

Darn it but there has to be some way to to use this device for us who after years of smoking can give our lungs a rest, yet still get the mental need for nicotine, ---why-----keep weight off, relax us in stressful situations.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to use this divice in public without having to go through hell when others think we are breaking the law.?

Damn I can open carry in this State but the E-cigarette will cause alarm.

Now that is funny!

I don't know where one restaurant patron got it, or if he made it himself, but I saw a guy had out a small business card explaining what he was using and how there was no harmful emission.  He gave it to the waitress at a Perkins where I was eating and I asked her about it when I was paying.  They let him be.

I seem to recall that Ron White got busted out at some comedy club in Washington state for smoking a cigar during his act.

I quit smoking about eleven months ago.. the night I had a heart attack.

About a month ago, I was moving the stratolounger, and found a pack of cigarettes under it with four smokes in it.

The pack sat on the counter for about fifteen minutes, then I chain smoked all four.

Had to pop a nitro when I was done, started having angina.

It never goes away, does it?

Haven't smoked any since, I think I'm fine as long as there are none available.

I've smoked roll-your-own tobacco for years now. A brand called White Ox ; which is also colloq. known as Black Death , Jail Smoke and several aptly fitting other terms. I can roll one of them in slightly more then 30 seconds. A little longer while driving.

Sells for between $25 and $30 for a 50g (near about 2z's) and a 5X50 pack of papers is circa $2. A pack of tailor made is more like $15/25.

Best part is that no one EVER mooches one off you when you tell em what it is and that they must roll it their own self.

I was gonna say, how about just quitting?  I did 14 years ago.  Best move I ever made.

CRAP, some can quit most anything, some cannot unless some kind of shortage forces them to.

Some can give up sex in any form, with or without a partner.

Some can give up meat products and live on beans and rice.

Some can give up coffee, tea and chocolate.

Some can give up all spices to include salt and pepper.

Some can give up all animal products, milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, and all products that one would use to make them.  Any kind of fat except for vegetable oil.

Some can give up listening to music, or playing it.

Most of us cannot but wonder how miserable life would be for us if we had to give up any of these things.

LIVE HEALTHY--DIE ANYWAY

Ya know, Sparky, I'm working in that direction. But, with my life, filled with mediocrity, I might as well do something I enjoy. When it's my time, it's my time. You can ask Eupher to verify, but I'm probably one of the most considerate smokers one could know. I can no longer drink, I eat to quench my hunger and I generally don't do a LOT of things I did or could do 20 -30 years ago. Hell, even back then, I smoked a pack a day and could still pump out a 7:00 mile before my knees started wearing out. (Which is not blazingly fast, but respectable)

We should all give up meat and dairy products, most shell fish and most definitely beer & liquor. Imagine how mundane life would be??

Disagree, disagree, disagree.  Although I did give up liquor, I'm not giving up beer or any of the listed foods.  And I smoke and am not quite ready to quit that.   I do have an e-cig, and I need to make a concerted effort to wean myself onto that.

Vesta, you can get a starter kit from Blu E-cigs for about $60.  Comes with equipment and 25 cartridges.  Also, here is a forum devoted to the subject:  Link

It doesn't bother me that you can't take them into places.  I don't go to bars anymore, much, and if I did, I'd just step outside.

Hubby's birthday is coming up and I would love to get him one of these gizmo's.

Questions for you about your experience with this device.  How long will it take to replace cigarettes with the device.?

What is the cost of each carterage and is it true that each is equal to 20 cigarettes?

Are you inhaling the water vapor, does it dry out your throat.?

Cost for the carterages is a big factor as is the replacements of batteries.

How do you turn them on and off, can you just take a few hits, turn if off and back on again, how about heat do these things get hot to the touch?

What is the biggest down side and the best upside.?

Hubby smokes those awful menthol things, can he get menthol flavor carterages.?

I did go to the link you sent, all these people selling these things, sort of like a recruitment to sell Avon or Fuller brushes.

I do not do bars anymore but every couple months it is fun to go to dinner have a huge steak, baked potato loaded and before and after the meal a nice cocktail and nicotine to put a curb on appetite.

It gets freaking cold up here, we cannot take our drinks outside when we have a cigarette, leaving an unattended drink on a table anywhere is never a good thing to do ANYWHERE.----Even at a home party.

If this can save our lungs  this is what we will consider---Thank you.

Switching to the natural tobacco, rolling my own (with a machine), has helped me slow down my smoking. Not only that, but I use a pipe tobacco. (It works quite well). At least I'm not getting all of the nasty additives that the .gov requires or that the manufacturers blend in. Tobacco & paper, filtered.
