Property Prices in 1998 - how to find out?

Does anyone know where I can look up rental prices in 1998?  We just received our rental prices for when our lease expires.  We are paying the exact same rate.  There is a huge banner out front that says 1998 prices, but I doubt people paid $869 a month in 1998 for this place.  The office told us that our unit is suppose to be $930 a month, but they will leave our rates exactly where they are.

Anyway, I'm just trying to see if they are actually charging 1998 prices or not.

Well, I know what I paid for my 1-bedroom apartment in Hermosa Beach back in 1998, and I'm pretty damned sure it's gone WAY up since then.

There are many  variables to consider setting a rental price. Besides Mortgage(s) & Taxes there is Availability of rentals, Location, desirability of amenities and plain 'ol pickin a number out of thin air just to name a few.

I would say it's realistic for rentals prices to be higher now as compared to 1998.

I was paying $450 a month for rent in 1998... it's gone up about $200 since then for the same space.

I was checking out prices earlier today.  In 1998, you could get a basic alignment done on your car for $30.  Now it's at least $50.

None of which helps the young lady.

Try the library, old news papers, they will have rental property and what they were renting for. Sunday papers will probably be the best. You might luck into a add from you apartment complex.

Oh, and to put it into perspective:

My apartment, 1998: $850/month (included refrigerator and extra parking space.)
My (old) apartment, 2010: $1655/month.

But damned if it wasn't nice being less than 2 blocks from The Strand.

Vegas didn't hit their "boom" yet in 1998.  I'm sure rent prices were around $600-$700 for a two bedroom.  If we signed for $869 last year (when they prices weren't at 1998 prices), then why are they telling us $869 again this year for 1998 prices?  It makes no sense.  If they are going to advertise 1998 prices, then they are going to let us rent for 1998 prices.  Damn it!

I'll look into the library option and see if I can find anything helpful.
