6. Alienating Iran will accomplish...what again?

Seems like any peaceful resolution in diplomacy includes listening to what the other side has to say, regardless of how nonsensical or odious it might be.

7. How can we alienate someone who openly hates us? nt

10. I'm going to ask for a link to where A has said he "hates the US"

knowing full well you can't provide it.

3 steps to a more peaceful world:

1) Listen to what everyone in power has to say.
2) Evaluate rationally and unemotionally
3) Respond likewise (not by storming out of the room, slamming the door, throwing a tantrum, dropping bombs).

Seems so easy.

13. Your scenario assumes everyone is acting in good faith.

The simple fact is that world leaders like all humans are basically emotional creatures that sometimes act rationally. They don't always act in good faith. They often act in a way to secure an advantage over the other parties by feigning good faith. One cannot be reasonable with those who are acting out of hostility.

Frankly, your post strikes me as exceedingly naitive. A link to a post that says, "The Iranian government hates us" or the contrary view proves nothing. It is the actions of Iran and the words coming out of their president's mouth that demonstrate at least total contempt for the Western world if not outright hatred.

16. On the contrary, one *must* be reasonable with those who are acting

out of hostility or one not only lowers oneself to their level, but takes a bad situation and escalates it.

You say A's words demonstrate total contempt for the Western world, yet he claims to agree with the American people:

"'The majority of the American people as well as most nations and politicians around the world agree with this view,' Ahmadinejad told the 192-nation assembly, calling on the United Nations to establish 'an independent fact-finding group' to look into the events of September 11."

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE68M55W20100923

Whether or not his statement is true, does that imply he has total contempt for the American people, or just the American government? Does it even imply that?

FWIW, one memorable time I was accused of being "exceedingly naive" was in a 2003 streetcorner debate when I doubted the existence of WMDs. So that accusation doesn't have a great track record with me.

Unless these people are republicans then off with their heads!!!

It is a good thing I am not in charge because all those that love the communist/fascist/islamist countries would be on a slow ship to those countries to get a first hand appreciation of that which they love.

Don't think that'll happen. I honestly think that if Netanyahu gets even a WHIFF of something like that possibly occurring, he'll strike first. And he'll strike HARD.

You're not.  Zero would tell Ahmadingynutjob everything he know before Israel would even have the jets warmed up.

(On the bright side, if Zero tries to tell Ahmadingynutjob without a teleprompter, Israel might have a chance.  It would take "the one" a good hour or so to get thru all his "uh's", "um's" and "duh's")
