Drunken Irish Dummy Pontificates

No Fat Teddy hasn't recrossed the river Styx.
And the rant is long so I will excerpt it but there are many priceless comments.

Maybe this is going to turn out like 2008...
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 03:41 AM by Drunken Irishman
If you'll remember, throughout the summer and into September, McCain was gaining on Obama and appeared to have the momentum heading into the conventions. It was at that point where many felt Sen. Obama would be able to distance himself from the McCain campaign and yet, when it was all said and done, McCain entered September statistically ahead of Pres. Obama in an average of polls.

What I'm saying is that the Republicans peaked way too early in 2008. Their best point in the election was summer and early September. The problem with that is we still had two to three months left until people actually went out and voted.

Once their momentum stalled, Obama gained traction not just because the economy was going to hell in a handbasket, but because people looked at Sarah Palin and freaked out.

She was toxic. She drove moderate voters in Florida who thought Obama might be sketchy on Israel right into his camp.

{snip}

Whether it'll be enough remains to be seen. But at least the prospects aren't nearly as bleak as they were a few weeks ago.

Now some comments

Are you forgetting September 15th ????
The day the shit hit the fan on Wall Street?

That, to me, was the day the wheels came off for McCain. It was so bad he had the cancel his appearance on the Letterman show.

Five Days That Transformed Wall Street: Sept. 15 - 19, 2008

I'm not discounting your points, but the financial crisis was the event that turned things around - decisively.

What to think of this exchange??

I certainly think that Obama could have won without all of the Wall Street mess. It's just that the Wall Street mess made his win inevitable.

Because most Democrats understand that letting these extreme Republicans win will truly be the demise of our Country as we know it. WE might as well say Christian US of A if they win.

If Democrats stay home with this threat so obviously out there then I give up on all Americans.

Epic Fail! the economy is in much worse shape today under Obama and the Democrats than it was in 2008 under the Democrats.

I'm going out on a limb and predict that Jimmy Carter ll -2 balls will not be reelected.

Sen. Brown: Chinese trade practices could undermine stimulus

Source: The Hill

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) is warning that Chinese trade practices in growing markets for renewable energy components could undermine the goals of U.S. energy spending in the big 2009 stimulus law.

“They absolutely can,” Brown said in an interview broadcast Sunday. The 2009 stimulus law steered tens of billions of dollars into various energy efficiency and “clean energy” programs to help boost U.S. development.

Sending US Stimulus funds to China does seem to be a bad idea, especially before the election.

Jeeze that bastard must really have been drunk the entire Summer if that's what he thinks happened.  McCain was sucking hind tit all the time, it was just a question of how bad.  The Social Conservatives and Libertarians didn't want him, he had a terrible track record on immigration, he was clearly for Kyoto and everything that would flow from it (Including C&T), and as far as moderates and Independents went they all knew if they wanted a Democrat they might as well vote for a real one.  The only GOP faction he actually appealed to was the Fiscal Conservatives and that was evan a 'Best of the worst' pick.  If he hadn't have picked Palin he would've ended up lucky to break 40%, she at least got some of the Social Conservatives and Libertarian Conservatives to go vote instead of taking a pass on the whole circus.

Better to end up as the Christian US of A (thought we kind of already were) than either the Commie US of A OR the Islamic US of A.

Really, there is some risk that big Republican victories this year might improve his personal chances in 2012, since he will be protected from being able to get his own idiotic legislative agenda enacted (Which will help him with sane people) and will be able to blame the GOP for that (Which will help him with the Democrat base).

DAT, that would be true, if Obama demonstrated the skills of Bill Clinton in triangulating.  I think that the Obamessiah is too much of an ideologue to do that.  Besides, the way things are looking at the moment, the GOP won't be able to undo any vetoes that the Obamessiah puts down, so his policies will continue, to a point.

I do agree. Dumbo wants to push as much crap as he can. I don't think he's really worried about the 2012 election. (I hope I'm wrong.)
