BOEHNER: Not exactly the elitist Obama portrays him to be...

Quote
John Boehner: the second of 12 kids from Ohio who is Barack Obama's elitist target

The White House is attempting to cling on to Democratic control of Washington by portraying an Ohio congressman who grew up in near poverty as an elitist country club Republican controlled by wealthy lobbyists.

President Barack Obama is doing his best to turn Representative John Boehner, the House minority leader, into Public Enemy Number One. If Republicans win back the House of Representatives in November, as polls indicate, he will replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

In a recent speech, Mr Obama mentioned Mr Boehner by name nine times. A fundraising email sent out from BarackObama.com this week stated that corporate interests and lobbyists “have put all their chips on one man: Congressman John Boehner”.

Democrats have started a BeatBoehner.com website that claims he spent $1 million on "luxury hotels, exclusive golf resorts and gourmet dining for himself and his fat-cat contributors". On the I-75 freeway outside Cincinnati, a huge poster showing a tanned Mr Boehner playing golf accuses him of teeing off 119 times in a year.

Yet Mr Boehner's life story is the type of classic up-by-the-bootstraps tale of the American Dream that can put a tear in a voter's eye. As his story becomes better known, the Democrats could even be drawing favourable attention upon him. Right now, most Americans have never heard of Mr Boehner, and fewer still can pronounce his name, which rhymes with Rayner. The alleged elitist country club Republican is an Ohio Congressman who grew up in near poverty.

_snip_

Very nice article on Boehner's modest roots. Another winning strategy by the Obungler to try to paint Boehner as an elitist golf playing smoker.

Picking on one Rep is not an especially sound strategy since he doesn't actually control anything in the House, can't even filibuster like a Senator could so that his one personal vote is meaningless, and leads a party they could collectively run over legislatively like a flattened possum any time they could get their OWN guys all on the same sheet of music to do it.

On top of that, unlike a Senator or Governor, the only opinion that matters in keeping him in office is that within his own district, which he probably has locked up pretty damn' well if he's been around long enough to become Minority Leader.  It's a stupid dissipation of effort, but I'm fine with them stupidly dissipating effort instead of doing something intelligent with it.

That sounds very progressive of lord dumbo, the man occupying the White House. A very typical progressive tactic.

It's right out of the Alinsky Rules for Radicals playbook.

In this case, the Commies in charge of the cluster**** in Washington think they can hold on to power by giving Boehner to the mob.

We do the same with Pelosi, which is equally fruitless as far as getting her booted by her own district.  As far as being a target figurehead, though, San Fran Nan is a much better target since she's Speaker and leader of the majority party, with failure in the House intuitively laid at her feet by the public.  There is a basic logical problem (Which is not over the head of the electorate) in trying to blame the head of the heavily-outnumbered minority party for all your problems, in a body where all it takes to pass most legislation is a simple majority vote, and your own party has that majority by a large margin.

DAT--sadly, take a survey and ask some people which party has a majority in the House and Senate.

You'll be STUNNED by the number of people who think the Republicans do.

There are sure a lot of stupid people in the world, but there are several things that work to help on this.  One, a lot of them don't watch the news (Even MSM) or actually vote when the day comes (In the case of Florida, even if they vote they don't understand what they did anyway), so they fall out; two, both sides have them and to some extent they cancel each other out; and three, their distribution matters a lot more than their stupidity in an election, if Rangel's district is chock full of people who don't understand a damned thing about politics and pollicy (and it is) and they re-elect him (and they will), that's the full proportional share of Dembot idiots taken care of for at least two other Congressional districts.  Yeah, I'm joking on that last one.

Bay-ner.

We had a mayor named Boner during the 80's.  He lived up to his name.
