So a coworker tells me last week...

...that health insurance premiums are going up because 26 year olds can stay on the plan now.
This has got to be RW rhetoric considering he listens to FAUX and RW radio talk.
I didn't have my ducks in a row to counter him then but it sure sounded suspicious.

Wouldn't more people in lower cost?
And besides...are people in their 20's really a burden on the healthcare system?

Some of these DUmmies get it, but some really don't.

It always boils down to the fact DUmmies have no understanding of money and economics.
Hard to exactly word it but the notion that money does literally grow on trees.

Expectin'' a DUmmie is ever goin' to get a clue is a lot like watchin' paint dry! You're just wastin' your time!

More like "expecting a DUmmie to get a clue would be like finding a garden slug that knows nuclear physics."

I know I will find that slug long before DUmmies even grow a brain, or obtain a single-digit IQ.   :hammer:

People tell me there is no such thing as a stupid question--Now I will prove them wrong.

Your in your late 40's and  the kid come  home to live, broke, but with a job, with some kind of partner say same sex.  Son is 22 partner same age.  Son has a job with no benefits as does their partner.  The Parents can now put their son on their medical plan at a big hike in monthly payment.

Son marries his partner and both live with the parent, what happends to the sons  marriage partner?    Do the Parents have to put the sons married person  on their insurance also for another big Hike in insurance payments.?

Another twist can the son and partner sue their parents if they refuse to place them on their insurance plan .?

As you can see I am having a hard time finding words to describe the relationships here.  Will your sons married partner legally be their son in law?

Who says the parents cannot kick the bumbs out when courts may say that to do so will harm him and spouce.?

Remember Peter Falk of Colombo fame.   His 21 year old daughter was going to college all expensis paid by father with just one hitch.  She would live on campus and not move in with a male.

She dropped out of school, moved in with a young man with a police record off campus.  Mr. Faulk cut off all funds to her.

She, sued her own father.

The court decided that the contract with his daughter was invalid as this would place her in a Chattle position. , she told the court she had made a mistake and wanted to go back to school and needed Daddy to pay.

Ends up since the father had enough money to pay for her education he should continue to do so and had no right to control her decisions on life style.

First we kill the lawye......judges.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

The CBO warned legislators that health care premiums would go up. Adding millions of freeloaders who will not pay a dime will increase costs and result in rationing. Have no fear though; herion and coke addiction benefits for treatment and consultation will be covered. So, we will be paying for crap we will never use.

Every one of those sorry bastards that voted for this abortion of a bill should be defeated the next time they run.

A result which is roughly as predictable as sunrise in the morning.

'More people' would only lower the cost if they are putting into the insurace pool instead of taking it out.  Everyone added is in the former category, but I suppose that such a blatantly obvious economic cause-and-effect relationship is probably over the head of many of your average DUmmies.

23-26 year-old males (Aside from the ones that are into extreme sports, drunk/drugged driving, or trying to get onto YouTube doing suicidal activities) maybe aren't all that high-demand on the insurers, but women in that group are in prime child-bearing years, which does get into some serious money PDQ.  Duh.

NPR had a very heart-warming segment on the healthcare bill this morning...and probably explained a lot of this increase by accident.  The lifetime cap on benefits is gone.  The guy on the NPR show is a hemophiliac, and takes medication to avoid the bleeds.  Now, this is completely legit, not a disease that he got through poor choices...but his meds cost some ungodly amount...something like $900,000 a year?  Whatever it was, he capped out on most insurance policies in 2 - 3 years, so had to switch jobs to maintain insurance that would cover his meds.  As a lot of people need very expensive meds for reasons that do include poor choices...and many probably weren't wise enough to go into a work field that allowed them ease of changing jobs...this does mean that costs could well skyrocket on only that one change.  And I'm willing to bet that some of those people will now be leaving government provided care and getting back into private insurance because it's so much more convenient and it's easier to find doctors.  (Which also says a lot about how wonderful O-care will be in a few years...)
