CHIEF S ITTING BULL, THE BIRD-SMACKING STONED RED-FACED PRIMITIVE
Original message

Whoa. I'm out on the screen porch, and I just saw a squirrel fall about twenty feet out of the old lady (the maple tree in the back yard).

He dusted himself off and went back about his business (raiding the bird feeder).

I wish I could take an impact like that and just stroll away from it.

Yeah, Chief S itting Bull hits his head on concrete a lot.  And on purpose too.

By the way, has anyone heard if the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive ended up buying that bar and motel?  I don't think he did, but he might have.

1. My dear Redstone!

Ah, maybe the squirrel can do feats like that...

But he can't sit down at your computer and talk about it afterwards, now can he?

Still, I hear ya!

Good to see you in these parts...

2. And I love to hear Mrs R, with her accent, say that word:

She pronounces it "Squee-rul," instead of the average American "Squrl."

(And we don't mind them raiding the bird feeder. We figure that if they're clever enough to do that successfully, they deserve some of the seeds.)

3. I have one in my backyard that's quite entertaining.

He does backflips off the trunk of our live oak, and plays with the wisteria vines on top of the pergola if I'm outside. We do feed him walnuts, and he figured out the bird feeder. Cute little fellow.

5. That oughta work. Given that I'm six-four, I should be shooting for a waist size of about two centimeters, yes?

No more spaghetti & meatballs for me.

6. Few months back I saw a squirrel plummet from a tree top down onto my roof edge and then roll off the roof edge: it's another twenty feet down to the ground from there. Dead squirrel, I thought. I'll have to go claim the body. So I strolled around the side of the house to look for where it fell. Not a sign of it anywhere. Poor thing musta still been motive

7. Last winter a squirrel was raiding our old bird feeder, when the cord holding the feeder snapped. The squirrel had an "OH, SHIT!" expression on its face as the feeder plunged down about 12 feet to the concrete below. Apparently unhurt and unfazed, the same squirrel resumed the raids when we repaired the feeder. We don't begrudge the squirrels (although we refer to them as "the best-fed squirrels in North America") because of their entertainment value. I've gotten a couple to accept peanuts from my hand and the mama squirrel had a batch of four babies that lived and played in our cedar tree in the front yard.

I shoot them with a Gamo Whisper .177 pellet gun when they raid my bird feeders.
They fall 20 feet, and DO NOT get up and dust themselves off.

AR, the Gamo could probably be used to defend oneself against two-legged vermin, too, and any others would never hear it.

There are at least two different genus in the states. The ones in WV and the ones we have out here. The ones in WV seem to be about twice the size of ours here.

I have eaten both. The ones from WV are definitely the better of the two!

My RWS .177 has offed many of the little marauders (Mostly while on loan to my nephew in FL for that purpose, but I've hunted with it too).  An accurate high-velocity air gun is an excellent tool for this, but even an air gun may not be legal if you're within city limits.  They are also a game animal and even if you don't want to eat them, you can still end up with a ticket for bumping off the little f*ckers out of season, so watch out for that issue too.

Winner WINNER, squirrel dinner.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

LOL! I get possums under my house all the time too. I bought me some rat traps and sometime it kills them outright and sometimes it don't. If it don't though it gives them one heck of a headache and they usually end up dying a couple days lays later... usually at the farthest point under my house from the access hole.  :-)

Nothing and I mean nothing smells worse than a dead possum that is really ripe.
