I can't say about FDR, even though he was a closet socialist, but Nixon whined something about "you're not going to have Dick Nixon to kick around any more" after an early 60s campaign........

That was after he lost the '62 campaign for CA governor.  And yet six years later he was President-elect.

Needless to say, the older generation of conservative politicians didn't have the alternative media to put out anything the MSM wouldn't/didn't.

FDR had such a thin skin about criticism and resistance by Congress and the people to what he wanted to do...he tried to expand the Supreme Court to 9 justices so he could pick people that would rule in his favor.

Nixon had such a thin skin that he had an enemies list.

Your recollection of history sucks greatly.

I would say that the reason you like them is their attempts to completely control business.

FDR was the one who had Japanese rounded up. Nixon's enemies list ranged from Jane Fonda to Joe Namath.
