Straight, I'll go with a good whiskey; vodka or rum for mixed drinks.
Liqueur, or however the Hell you spell it, Apfelschnapps.
Gin and Jaeger are almost equally horrible, but gin wins as the most horrible-tasting distilled liquor ever.

Don't know how to spell the schnapps either...but it's good in hot cinnamon apple tea.  :-)

Kurland? You sure? I've called or been to every liquor store I can find and no one has had it.

Long day, I didn't read the Kurland part at the end of the sentence and thought you were talking about Monopolowa.  I will keep my eyes peeled when I am on this side of town.  Legacy is a USA-family owned shop, brand new.  They may just order it for you if they can find it from their distributor.

And unfortunately I've never found it in the states, but Kurland vodka is really smooth.

Apparently they do import it.  You can contact these guys and see if anyone in your area handles it:

I gotta say, Italian grappa is absolutely the worst horse-piss liquor ever invented by diabolical man.

As far as smell and taste go, it's a tossup between turpentine and formaldehyde. Acetone ranks in there somewhere.

On the licorice side, ouzo from Greece is pretty good (gotta be ice-cold), and Sambuca (a couple-three coffee beans in the shot glass, and ignited for a few seconds to release the oils) is also good after a nice meal.

Mmmph. Although not my favorite anything, I like some liqueurs. Sometimes I want something stronger than beer or even wine, but don't feel like going 80+ proof. There are so many, but there are some eastern European honey-based liqueurs I favor; naturally enough, since I'm pretty nuts for honey. Can't stand any of those cream liqueurs, though, eg, Bailey's and that lot. Thor, I've never felt an urge to get hair waxed off yet or drive a smart car.

Eupher, Ouzo has an anise taste, right? More stuff not for me.

Yes, grappa is nauseating.

All Smirnoff Vodka's.  It's my favorite!

Least favorite?  Jack Daniel's.  It tastes like crap.

Yeah, I agree. I like real bourbon, not charcoal-filtered nonsense. It even tastes like charcoal. Why would I want charcoal in my bourbon? What happened, did the original maker wake up one day and say, "gee, you know, what this sourmash really needs is some charcoal in it, yeah, that'll make it taste sooooo good."?  Sheesh.  Talk about "on the rocks."

I really can't do much hard liquor at all, but I love margaritas, and they are best with Patron tequila. And that is the only liquor I can shoot.

I do like Bloody Marys, and I prefer either Absolut or Grey Goose. And Absolut Peppar is really good for Bloody Marys.

Worst? Any kind of gin. Oh my grossness.

Yeah, but it's not nearly as sweet as Sambuca. Pernod (from France) has a similar anise flavor, though not with the bite that ouzo has.

Yeah, I know. Not for you.

Fortunately you can find Monopolowa just about anywhere. I've even found it at the podunk E. TX liquor store I used to go to when I lived in Athens.

Thanks. Anytime I've had it before it was brought back from Estonia by a friend that lives over there. Hopefully I can get it on a more regular basis now.

Granted that about 99.9 percent of my alcohol consumption is beer, I will go this far:

Favorite--Kahlua (liqueur).  After that, rum (preferably Captain Morgans).  But you can count the number of times I drink either one in a year on one hand and have room to spare.

Least--Black Velvet.  My old man saw to that when I was 15.  Or at least I did.  From then until the last time I saw him, he laughed his ass off every time he asked me, "Want a nip of my BV?"  Southern Comfort and Yukon Jack are close seconds.
