Do you have a story of changing someone's mind from a conservative/Republican position ?

Please share your anecdotes. Thank you for your time.

This could be fun ...   :rotf:

No, but I know a few people who punched themselves in the nuts, which is only slightly less painful and stupid.

4. Here is my preferred method for changing their minds:

Tell them that they are backwards, uneducated simpletons. Degrade them, tell them they are stupid, insist they are bigots, respond to them with snide remarks and scathing sarcasm that can't quite conceal my utter contempt for them and their opinions. Tell them I know what is best for them, and when they object I walk away while dismissing anything they say out of hand.

Then I thank them for their time, and I tell them to be sure and vote.

:lmao:

OMG that's a total call-out on the DU and Progressives!

9. I once shared cubicle space with a staunch R (devoutly religious variety).

Eighteen months later, he owned a copy of one of Obama's books. He remains anti-choice, but otherwise has come into the light, even storming out of his church because they were all but endorsing McCain/Palin from the pulpit!

DU itself gets much of the credit. He'd frequently see it on my screen and ask me about it. He even tried to register a couple fo times, but was still enogh of an R that we had granite pizza in the lunchroom both days.

KamaAina, I don't know how to break this to you but IF this is indeed true, this coworker was NEVER a republican.

Carry on.

7. Small steps

I have a die hard Republican cousin. He started sending me those chain emails a few years ago and I would reply by debunking them with links. The one thing that happened that I consider a good thing is that he no longer takes as gospel ever right wing screed that is forwarded to him by his friends. He forwards them to me and asks me if they are true.

At least he has become a bit skeptical of the talking points, particularly the birther crap.

Dear Mz Pip, would you be so kind as to post one of those emails with your links so that we can all be schooled?

Pretty please?

What a DOuche! Yeah, I'll bet you send him links! Where, from HuffPO, Kos, MoveOn? Only a DUmbass would consider links from "Progressives for America" an actual fact finding establishment!

And, do to your diligence, he now doesn't believe the facts! You do know what facts are, don't ya DUmmie? I know, stooooopid question!

well what do you know. The mental institution has even extended internet service to the "rubber room".
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Crazy people deserve to be on the internet, too.

Stupid, arrogant, and self-centered. Like death and taxes, DUmmies are a certainty. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE (except maybe an easily led teenager) would abandon PRINCIPLE for Dem talking points. People can talk and debate but "links" aren't going to convince anyone, because another person can find links to prove the opposite. Anyone with half a brain can figure this one out (but maybe sitting next to a DUmmie had the same dumbing down effect as a public school education). If a person declares they're pro life and then vote dem their convictions are more for show. No one who is pro life is going to vote for someone who is pro abortion.

ITA! I only know of 2 Republicans in real life who became Democrats, and the only reason 1 woman became a liberal is because she retired and got bored and somehow got caught up in the environmental movement, this woman went from a sane person into a zombie after that, you should've seen the look in her eyes when she would discuss Obama, and she's still a kook about him as far as I know.

It was freaky talking to her, she wasn't the same person, and she constantly yapped about spending under Bush, and even through Obama has tripled the deficit she's still under his spell.
