Son's gonna have a bad day.....LOL
« on: August 22, 2010, 08:06:23 AM »
Little kid, and I do mean little as in size as well as age (just turned 14), is being awarded his Eagle Scout rank at church this morning. I wouldn't miss it for the world because the devil in me is coming out. The kid is a bit of a sissy and to be frank a wimp but I like the kid. He's smart as all get out and has some drive of his own but his mother pushes him something awful. According to my son and the other scouts, he whines a lot and I think they cause some of it.

When I get to shake the kids hand and congratulate him on his achievement this morning....I'm going to encourage him to go rub it in the other, older scouts faces... :rotf: ...especially my son who has always been paired with him for backpacking trips and the Philmont excursion.... :rotf:

I'm going to have a good day....my son...not so much... :rotf:

I gotz an excuse....The devil made me do it.

It's 2 pm and I just got in. Had a nice service and the family of the Eagle Scout treated the whole church to a catered meal afterwards.

And Yes I egged the little fellow on to tease the others a bit but being the nice guy he is...he wouldn't do it...I had to beg him to tease my son...and now the wife and son aren't speaking to me... :rotf:

The kid's family has moved 200 miles away. His father moved 6 months ago due to his  job being transferred and now the rest of the family is following. He wanted to get his Eagle here where he earned it. I wished him luck and hoped he'd find a troop as active as the one he just left. He said he'd be back for any Eagle ceremonies for the others in his age group.

Eagle scout at 14? Impressive! <insert Boy Scout saluting smiley here> Unless they changed what you had to do to get it from when I was in The Boy Scouts (late 70's) then he is anything but a sissy. I never made it. I discovered girls and a drivers license was muuuch more important. Around here in West by God Virginia you couldn't get it until you was 17. If I recall, you had to have a boat load of merit badges, do a whole lot of other stuff, and have 4 years in. I made it to Life Scout, but like I said... I discovered girls and a drivers license was muuuch more important when I hit 16.

A scout will (or should) never do that or he wouldn't be a scout... much less a an Eagle Scout.    :(

Two so called wimp friends of mine made Eagle Scout. I was there for their ceremony. I saluted them when they were awarded their rank and they saluted back even though I was no longer active but in uniform. (you can do that if you are a life scout) I saluted their achievement and they saluted me as a brother scout.

and the Philmont excursion...

I never made it to Philmont but my brother did. I went to Canada instead. 18 days in the wilderness. Makes a man of you as does Philmont.
