Roger Clemens Indicted for Obstruction, Perjury
« on: August 19, 2010, 02:18:04 PM »
From BusinessWeek.

We all knew it was coming. Doesn't make it suck any less, though...

Quote
Aug. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Roger Clemens, the former New York Yankees pitcher, was indicted on charges of lying to Congress over the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

The six-count indictment today by a federal grand jury includes charges of obstruction of Congress, making false statements and perjury for allegedly lying over the use of banned substances, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington.

The indictment came more than two years after he told a U.S. congressional committee that he never used banned substances in a baseball career that produced 354 victories and a record seven Cy Young Awards

I gotta admit I've always liked Roger, and got to see him pitch a few times. However, if you're gonna do dirty, you're gonna get dirty.  :(

He wasn't on the juice when he played for the Sox -- Duquette was 110% correct that Clemens passed his prime and was not worth top dollar when he skipped town giving Sox fans the middle finger.

I guess Roger no longer has to worry about wearing a Red Sox hat cap in the hall of fame.........

Did I mention I LOATHE this man?

Not to derail the thread, but when will it become illegal for congress to lie to the American People?

I don't care if Roger Clemens takes steroids. I don't approve of cheating. Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth did not take steroids and they are still the King. I don't think the government should be involved.

When they do it under oath.

Roger was doomed the moment he insisted on telling them that he did not take steroids.   A simple "no comment" or pleading the 5th would've saved his butt. Unlike Bonds, he doesn't have a personal trainer that would be willing to goto jail for a year rather than testify.

IMO, Congress has no reason to inject themselves into professional sports. While I'm not a fan of baseball, period, I DO think that Clemens shouldn't have even been required to be "investigated" by anybody other than the Baseball League. Steroids is "cheating", but seriously, who gives a rat's ass?? Kick the steroid users out of the hall of fame or keep them out and be done with it.

I find it ironic that Congress can steal, cheat & lie to the American public, but tell THEM a lie and you go to jail. Hypocrisy at it's finest!!

I find it strange that with all the problems this country has, they picked on him.  He should have said nothing. By the way do you all know that baseball owners pay NO TAXES ON THE INCOME from the profits they make from their teams????????????????????????????????????  :fuelfire: They are Tax Exempt. Every so often they go to Capital hill, Bud Selig , and tell the folks why they should be that way..  Sorry i digressed didn't I?

Congress is using this as it's way of diverting attention from themselves and their own sick short comings.  But if they insist on a perjury conviction - lets bring 'slick willie' back also, and how about the 100 'Senators' that sat as his jury, but NEVER even viewed the evidence.  Lets see - name a 'jury' that didn't review any evidence..... :censored:
