Remember when we used to honor military members?
I remember when I was in my 7th grade shop class, we had an assistant teacher who was an old campaigner from WWII in the Pacific. He had worked with the Filipino resistance fighters, underground stuff, probably the precursor to today's special forces. Anyway, we spent a lot of time sitting around listening to him regale us with tales of "Jap-fighting" and the atrocities the Japanese would inflict on the populace. He showed us some old photos of Japanese soldiers the Filipinos had captured and beheaded and even brought in a couple of short swords, one of which he alleged to have been used in the decapitation.
I can only imagine what an uproar, on so many different levels, something like this would cause today. The school would have been surrounded by a shrieking mob of bedwetters and the poor guy would probably be in jail. Sad to see how far we've fallen.
