White House to get $376M renovation

http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/2304420,CST-NWS-whitehouse23.article

Quote
Obama and his family will get to stay in the White House during the renovations, unlike Harry Truman, who moved into the Blair House when the building's main structure was completely rebuilt during his term.

At least the Obamas won't be disrupted at the crack of dawn: Peck said construction work will occur only from 7:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.

The West Wing, built in 1902, houses the Oval Office, the vice president's office, the Cabinet Room, the Situation Room and various offices for top presidential aides. The East Wing, added in 1942, is occupied mostly by the first lady and her staff, the White House military office and the Secret Service, and includes a movie theater.

The price tag is more than 100 times the total cost of building the White House in the 1790s, Bloomberg reports.

Congress approved funding for the project in 2008 after some of the systems in the White House were deemed to be approaching the end of their "reliable productivity."

The GSA said the project would take four years

Looks like the tarps we used to put around scaffolding when I was doing that kind of work. Probably resto work or something of the like would be my guess.

They did the same thing to the upstairs private residence right after he took office.. I just do not trust a thing this bunch does.. so I am thinking they are doing ugly things to that beautiful place. I do not remember white sheets during Bush's term. Yep I know "white sheets" invites all sorts of comments""" :fuelfire:

Congress approved this project is 2008....the Democrat controlled Congress approved it.

Which Dem will be the first to blame this on Bush?

Does almost $400 million have to be spent now?

I would like to know who is in charge of the interior decor choices. I sure hope it isn't Michelle.

It's probably hardening and technology upgrades. No problem with keeping the WH and its resident safe.

Article said it was due to HVAC, plumbing, wiring. For that cost, they must be having to tear it out to the studs.

I don't have a problem with the money being spent, IF it needs to be done....$375 MILLION just seems to be an incredibly high cost. They have to be doing a lot more than they are admitting to....and that's fine, if it's for the protection of the WH and the First Family, regardless of who that family is.
