There's quite a bit of criticism of Mrs. Obama's trip to Spain.

30 rooms at a high end luxury hotel. The same number of cars in the motorcade to get her from the airport to the hotel.

To the critics: get over yourselves. Its the law. She has to be protected. She's paying for her room, meals, shopping, etc.

I am certain that the foul smelling jester would feel the same way if Laura Bush had done this.

1. i think some of the criticism is warranted...

given the economic conditions. she may be paying for her room, but at what cost to the taxpayers is the rest of the trip? fairly recently President Obama criticized executives of companies for spending money on junkets to various sites when they were strapped for cash. the US is operating on a huge deficit...millions of dollars in spending for a european vacation right now doesn't look good.

Ouch lousy freeper troll.  :lmao:

does it. Funny how the idiots on the right wing learn for the first time that republican presidents were doing something simply because they complain when a democratic president does the same thing. So many things were never an issue until a democrat does it.

Oh after the crap you guys spewed about Bush I think its fair to blast the Obamas.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

My only criticism would be that she came back.

Funny .... every report I see says she has 60-70 rooms rented.  Since she has 40 of her 'closest friends' .... 30 rooms make no sense.  Could DUmbass be lying?

How do we know she's paying for 30 rooms and all the meals, shopping etc.

I would think she's paying for the shopping, as that's a personal expense.

Know darn well she isn't paying for all the secret service personnel (salary), the flight to get all her secret serrvice over there, or the 30 cars she seems to "require".

At most she might be paying for her and her daughter's room, meals and shopping.

Everything else....we the taxpayers are paying....

Is it just me or has the Fetid Harlequin been lashing out more blindly, bitterly and at random the past few weeks? It smacks of desperation born of loss - seeing all one's hopes and dreams of liberal utopia disintegrating like wisps of smoke.

In fact, the whole tone of DU has been that way. They've been reduced to a sporadic and weak raising of their weary heads and whimpering out, "Racist!" now and then like the last gasps of a dying man. Just a bunch of random sniping and grasping at straws is all that's left. Even the bouncies are few and far between and no one in them is being converted. They're standing smack in the middle of the tracks as the great engine of November is bearing down on them, and they're scared shitless with no one to turn to.

The image that keeps coming to mind is the quintessential Old Rummy At The Bar. Same seat every night, away from everyone else. Staring down dejectedly at his drink, ruminating over good times past. Silent and unmoving except for an occasional drunken wobble and to raise his glass to his lips. Every now and then he'll catch a word or snatch of conversation from the revellers around him that sparks a thought, and he'll lift his head long enough to rant out a rambling sentence or two about how great things used to be for him or how the world is going to hell in a handbasket. Then after a moment of surprised silence from the other patrons he again hangs his head and he is once more ignored as the conversations around him start anew.

It is thus with the DUmmies. The heady days with a clearly defined enemy are behind them, the war protestors have returned to their basements, their demigods in government have betrayed them, DU has been decimated by a dozen purges and is now overrun by DLCers and moles, and Cindy Sheehan has become the answer to a trivia question. There is only one way out of this hell, DUmmies.

Cut well, and deeply.

Okay, refresh my memory...when did a Republican FIRST LADY do this? This isn't a trip by the president. This is his wife and daughter along with 30 or 40 of their closest friends. Heck, I don't even remember a Republican president taking a lavish vacation like this. What the hell has Michelle Antoinette done to EARN such a vacation partially funded by the American taxpayer, most of whom can barely afford to spend a week at a state campground.

Ah no, since she had a 'diplomatic' meeting with the Spain head of state, her entire trip including hotel, air fare, cars, meals were ALL funded by the taxpayer. You can damn well be sure she has a 'diplomatic' expense account including a clothing (shopping) 'allowance' too.

As the NY Daily News said...she is a modern day Marie Antionette.

While the rest of the country is being told by her hubby that we have to cut back...watch our budgets and 'sacrifice"...she's out lavishing herself with a Spanish vacation that is costing those of us paying taxes a LOT of $$$$

The wife turned on the TV just before she left for work. CBS was doing it's best to be critical of Mrs. Obama but at the same time smooth things over for her....then I flipped past ABC or NBC and damned if they weren't doing the same song and dance.

I'm now watching some 1950's sci-fi movie....it's more believeable...and interesting.

Even Fox this morning, was reporting that the WH had said the additional "friends and family" paid for their travel and lodging expenses. ....then they added that the rooms were $400 to $6000 a night...with a bit of an exclamation point at the end. Then they added, that because Michelle was visiting the King and Queen of Spain, this is considered a trip(can't remember the exact word) that qualifies for tax payer paid rather than personal.

Yeah...I want to see those checks floating in from the friends and fam that proves they are personally paying for themselves.

I am curious, though...why pick Spain with their economy almost as bad as Greece? Was it the only place the WH could find to charge off the trip expense to the taxpayer's? The only heads of state that wanted to see Michelle? Spain needs more US dollars spent there, than we do here IN the US?

Personally, I don't care where Michelle takes her daughter on a trip....I do care though, how much tax payer monies are required to PAY for the trip, particularly with the US economy as it is. There are many beautiful places here in the US, that I'm sure they could have gone to, that also need the economic benefits of a huge presidential-type entourage especially one that includes 30 extra "guests". Staying here in the US would have been considerably less expensive than traipsing off to Spain.

I'm thinking that "Marie Antoinette" is rapidly becoming a very appropriate name for Miz Obama.

I am certain when Ms. Bummer goes to a foreign hotel, they shut down the whole floor! We pay for it, even if they remain vacant! She's pullin' a fast one! Her explanation will be, "Hey, the rooms were empty, so I'm actually "saving" the American foreign policy by spending our dollars in Spain!".

I'm sure we're going to see all that "transparency" Zero promised us, so we can see for ourselves what she spent on the taxpayers dime! Yeah, right! Bull ****in' shit!

The cost of accommodating the secret service team runs at around £172 each a day which amounts to nearly £60,000 for the length of the summer break.

Use of Air Force Two, the Air Force version of a 757, comes in at £91,900 for the round trip. This does not include time on the ground.

The American public will also cover the cost of the only official part of the holiday, a visit to the Spanish royal family on the island of Majorca.

A conservative estimate puts the total amount at around £150,000.

Back in the U.S., anger was mounting - especially as it has emerged the First Lady will have enjoyed eight holidays by the end of the summer.

<snip>

Mrs Obama arrived by plane at Malaga airport yesterday/on Wednesday morning and was driven in a 14-car convoy to the five star Hotel Villa Padierna, where her entourage has reserved 60 of the 129 rooms.

She told owner Ricardo Arranz she had come to 'relax and unwind'.

I've been to Majorca (Mallorca). It's a very nice island that's used by many Europeans as a vacation spot. I don't believe for a NY Minute that her "friends" are paying a single dime for their trip, other than their rooms and food. Then, what's being forgotten is the maintenance man hours required to maintain the 757. That ain't cheap, either.
