Andy Griffith to pitch health care law to seniors

* Posted August 1, 2010 at midnight

Actor Andy Griffith has a new role: pitching President Barack Obama's health care law to seniors in a cable television ad paid for by Medicare.

The TV star - whose role as sheriff of Mayberry made him an enduring symbol of small-town American values - tells seniors that "good things are coming" under the health care overhaul, including free preventive checkups and lower-cost prescriptions for Medicare recipients.

Medicare says the national ad is part of its outreach to educate seniors about new benefits available next year. The ad is slated to run on channels seniors watch, such as the Weather Channel, CNN, Hallmark and Lifetime, at an initial cost of $700,000.

7. I predict this one ad could could have a huge impact... especially on the 60+ crowd.

Brilliant whoever thought of it!

Great idea lie to the old folks and maybe the dems will get a few more votes.  :banghead:

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Screw Andy ... I'm waiting for his son, Opie, to come out and tell me the evils of capitalism.

I've noticed that AARP advertises heavily on those and similar networks frequented by seniors.  And yet the DUmmies would (rightly) be indignant by the other myriad of scams perpetrated on the elderly, but since they get "free" shit out of it, screw Grandma!

I hate to say this but even when he was on TV being sheriff of Mayberry I thought he was an idiot for going around the place with no gun and even less of a clue about how to deal with people when trouble came along. He might have been good for comedic reasons but as a sheriff he sucked

The elderly are much less easily duped than your average MTV viewer. It's not like he's Snooki or anything. Doesn't matter who they get to peddle it, when Medicare Advantage (their most popular and affordable program) disappears they'll know they've been had.
