It's really quite simple, which explains why the primitive's can't figure it out. Their brains are still amoeba-like.
Progressivism requires a person to surrender almost every facet of their life over to a nameless bureaucracy that sees every person as a monetary entry in a ledger book and not as a person. Look at what the "progressives" are requiring of us now with forced medical insurance, turning over of our most private medical and financial records to be stored in an unsecured electronic central depository, increasing taxes, taking a fifth or sixth mortgage on our grand kid's grand kid's jobs, how much salt and fat can be in the food we eat if we're allowed to eat something, and what we can watch; all while we are forced at gunpoint to subsidize the illegal, the lazy and the slacker.
Conservatism (the true kind) gives people that power back. We are trusted to make the decisions that we think are best for ourselves, not some faceless bureaucrat. If we think we can get by without health insurance, we can take that chance. If we want to eat a greasy, salty burger we can. If we want to support the poor through charity (note DUmmys that welfare is not charity as it is not voluntary) we may. We desire the minimum amount of spending for the necessities of society (including roads, military, fire and police and a few other things) therefore allowing a person to keep more of his hard earned money to spend as he sees fit. Along with this comes personal responsibility for your choices both good and bad. It's not easy or safe and sometimes it bites one in the ass. But it is preferable to living as a prole in 1984.
And that is what people like the DUmmies cannot understand. Their "being a prole is bliss" philosophy is anathema to most Americans as polls continually show. OBlamer was not a massive shift in the electorate to the liberal cause, but a reaction to an unpopular President and even more unpopular challenger. Frankly, the Donks could have run a ham sandwich against McCain and it would have won because of the D after its name. Unfortunately many people ignored the warning signs and now we have the trifecta in a far-left House, Senate, and Executive.
The triumvirate at the top woefully misread what happened in November 2008 and went off the deep end. The stimulus, takeovers of banks and auto companies, health care "reform", an increasing number of unaccountable czars, unqualified appointees and now the financial "reform" made all but the most brain dead stand up and go "WTF!" and has lead to the massive uprising against the government's policies.
The DUmmies do not help their cause any either. Continually vilifying their opposition as racist and stupid has rendered those words essentially meaningless. Admonishing others for "voting against their own interest" is the height of hubris as if anyone knows what's in another person's best interest. The arrogance of the left in media and academe have made them figures of fun.
I will admit that some of Oblamer's bad poll numbers are from those that think he's too far left, but the number is probably in the low single digits, not the overwhelming majority that the DUmmies claim.
