We always told patients the amount of days for the test results to come in and that if they didn't hear from us everything was normal, but if there was a problem the Doctor would call. We also told patients they were free to call the Doctor after the tests came in to go over the results with them whether they were normal or not.

2. They get the results within hours for simple tests and usually within a couple of days for more exotic ones. They call you if there is something very abnormal and you have to be seen at once.
No way if a test is sent out and the overwhelming majority are sent out, the only ones I know in my area with testing on site are the Urologists and they can do a quickie test to see if someone has a Urinary Tract Infection etc. otherwise the other tests are sent out. The Labs pick up the specimens after office hours, the only way to get results ASAP are to have the tests done at the Hospital and the Doctor would have to include STAT on the script to get the results right away.

4. I just went through the same thing.
Doc suspected a UTI based on a routine urinalysis.
Asked me to come in for another test.
This is where the patient HAS to be proactive, you do the quickie test to see if you have a UTI, but then the office should still send out a Urine Culture and Sensitivity Test, the patients needs to find out how many days for the test results to come back for the Urine C & S, and the patient needs to call that day especially if they weren't prescribed antibiotics when the quickie test was done, especially if the quickie test didn't show a UTI.
