Just so you know: It will get worse before it gets better
« on: July 14, 2010, 10:27:06 AM »
It is highly probable that the GOP will take control of the HoR in January 2011 with a fair-to-middlin' chance of taking the senate as well.

Now the first thing that should be noted is: the GOP is a bunch of spineless weasels (and that comes with an apology to all de-vertebrated polecat species). However, for the next 5 to 10 years that will actually be a positive because their cowardice has always been a fear of what the public will think of them. Well, for the next 5 to 10 years the public will be very concerned about spending, taxes and the economy. If the GOP is to be a bunch of puss-tard let them be a bunch of puss-tards that fear the Tea Party.

However, as concerns the pitfalls of a GOP victory please keep in mind that even if the grabs the senate the Dems can filibuster the living crap out of everything and platively cry, "Well, you guys did it first!" Public opinion will be against them but public opinion is already against them and still they demand bigger taxes and bigger budgets. The moderating influence of the blue dogs will have been swept away in the prerequisite GOP led rout so all we will have left are the die hard lefties in secure blue states.

But that's not the least of our worries.

Obama likes to rule by diktat and when he in confronted with a GOP-dominated congress that will become his reflex response. His aborgation of the legal rights of GM's bond-holders, the racist politicization of the DoJ, the SEIU thugs showing up at the homes of political targets are just the beginning. There is no reason to believe these behaviors won't become anything but magnified under Obama. This is, after all, the administration that released a "profile" of potential terrorists as members of the military who swore to protect and defend the US Constitution because they might actually think the 10th Amendment is the writ of law or something.

This is also the same administration that sent the First lady to speak before the NAACP on the eve of that organization's resolution to condemn the president's prime political opposition, The Tea Party, as racist. Coincidentally, the same day the NAACP resolution was passed the administration declared that its big beef with al Qaeda was that it AQ was acting like a racist organization because it was killing Africans. The declaration itself was stunnig as it seemed to back-handedly and with stunning insensitivity diminish the lives of all the Europeans, Indians, Filipinos and Arabs slaughtered by AQ but this administration can't even bring itself to call terrorism, terrorism. We are instead treated to terms like "overseas contingency operations" and "man-caused disasters."

But lo and behold, First Lady gives street cred to NAACP, which in turn paints the president's dissenters as racist on the same day the president reaffirms that terrorism is a racially motivated act.

Hold on tight kids, January 2011 is just the beginning.

All true; there is no plausible scenario that actually gives the GOP enough of a majority to actually undo the damage that has been done from 2006 onward.  The best that can be said is that they will probably be in a position to begin damage control, but without being able to actually fix anything yet.  IF they have the balls, which has been a huge and recurring shortcoming in the past, they will basically still have the power to de-fund Zero's initiatives no matter whether they arise from Imperial decree or legitimate lawmaking processes in the past, however.

My biggest fear is that the GOP will take enough seats to be able to thwart Lord Zero's plans, and will be painted as obstructionists, much like has been done so far.  Then people will forget how bad the Pelosi/Reid leadership was, (people do have short memories), and Obama will be reelected and the Dems will get an even bigger majority in 2012.

The real threat there is: Porkulus

This is $1.2 trillion slush fund handed to the president and they have spent less than half of the money.

Madison said the president holds the sword but congress holds the purse but the dems sis an end-run around that principle by giving Obama his own purse.

If the GOP wins big it will be because the belectorate is beggin them to obstruct Obama. If charges of obstructionism were holding Obama would be a boon to dems seeking re-election, not the albatross he has become.

Now that bears repeating.

But hopefully there will enough of them with some semblance of a spine to put the brakes on the worse of the current liberal agenda.  But we need them to actually act like conservatives and not lib-lites.

I'm fearing a repeat of post-1994 (assuming we take back Congress of course).  Clinton played the Republicans like a virtuoso after that.  Of course it didn't help that we nominated a dud of a candidate in 1996.

I'm not, because Barack Obama is no Bill Clinton, for one.  Clinton is a master politician.  Obama is a master community organizer.  The two are far, far different.  Obama will "rule" by Executive Order.  When Clinton pwned Newt Gingrich over the Federal government shutdown in 1995, he set the stage for the Republicans nominating Bob Dole--a good man, but not Presidential timber.  'Course, the GOBN in the Republican Party felt that it was Dole's "turn," much like they're probably going to push Mitt Romney on the Republican Party in 2012.  They didn't think enough of John McCain to really get behind him in 2000, so someone who beat an idol of the Dems (Ann Richards)--George W. Bush--wound up with the nod, with the understanding that McCain's "turn" would come in 2008.  It did, and look what happened.  The GOBN probably feels that Mitt Romney is the guy in 2012, so they'll be lining up behind him on November 3rd.

I don't think that Sarah Palin is the choice for 2012, at least for the Presidential nod.  If I had to bet on it, I'd say that Palin replaces Michael Steele at the RNC, and Haley Barbour is the choice in 2012.  Why?  I doubt very much that the Republicans are going to go with someone who doesn't have executive experience, such as Jim DeMint or Paul Ryan.  They're going to go for a governor.  Mitch Daniels would have been my choice until his concilitory statements on bipartisanship at the Federal level, about two months ago.  Haley Barbour has executive experience as the Governor of a state directly affected by the incompetence of the Obama Administration--Mississippi.  (Looking as maybe-President Barbour's successor in 2020, then it should be Sarah Palin.)  The performance of Mississippi in the wake of Katrina is another plus for Governor Barbour.  IYR, the idiots that went to the Superdome were relying on the Federal government to bail them out.  People in Mississippi just rolled their sleeves up and fixed the damned wreckage.

Circumstances for Clinton were just so in 1996.  So shall they be in 2012, for the Republican challenger (whomever it is), but because of the Obumbler ****ing up royally.

Have to agree with this... And it's also important to note that some of the GOP are as progressive as the DNC - Gramm, Brown, Snow, McCain... they may slow down the ship, but they won't change it's direction.

I hate to be ignorant, but is there a video of Michelle Obama speaking at the NAACP meeting?  I heard a small amount about this on Glenn Beck today, but I'm not sure if they had audio of any sort.  If they did, I missed it when it was played.

And I agree, things will definitely get worse before they get better.  But I'm sure we can manage to ride out the storm.

I think the point we ALL need to remember...despite the Doomsday hand wringers here...is that it will get better....which means that much to the chagrin of the Dems and the 100%'ers...Conservatism will once again rule the day.
