Best way to dispose an old computer ?

I have two Dell desktops and a laptop that I'd like to find a good home for.  I've tried nursing homes, schools, libraries and inner city community centers........same response, only want brand new stuff !

It seems a shame to throw them out.  Computer repair schools don't want them either ... geesh.

Try contacting your local VFW or American Legion.  They might have some members that would love a PC.

My VFW is working on setting up computers for people to use. I know it's not local, but we sure could use them. Most of our older members can't afford their own. I would have to set up a class......... ::sighs::

What's not "working" about them?? Bear in mind, I can repair most computers.

They crashed.  I'm tech challenged, so I just bought new ones.  The old fat monitors, everyone wants flat screen. I was especially surprised the local IT training schools didn't want them.  Like donating a cadaver to a medical school.....here, take it apart and see what's inside?

This reminds me of my experiences with the homeless in NYC, I get doggie bags from nice restaurants and offer them to the panhandlers, and boy are they picky....."exactly what is it?"  "I don't like meatloaf" "Got cigarettes?"  "Got cash? I'd really rather have a drink."  No wonder they're called bums!

I just can't give anything away for free  :-)

Well, I would take the main CPU units. I can usually repair them. They don't cost much to ship, comparatively. You can write the donation off on taxes, too. The VFW is a 501 (c) 19 organization. You can dispose of the monitors to whomever might want them locally. They cost far too much to ship as to be worth it. I can always obtain monitors locally for less than you would pay to ship them.

I'd take all of them off your hands, but I live in Austin TX. How much would shipping cost if we could work out a payment plan where I pay for shipping?
