Becoming unemployed and scared

This is a crisis so many American's have experienced, I can in no way ask for sympathy.
but you're going to anyway

Next week, I am moving with a wing, a prayer, and a month's paycheck to find a job in Buffalo. I've moved a lot, New Orleans, San Francisco, San Diego, Richmond, Philadelphia, but never without a job lined up ahead of time. I'm 41 and one month away from being homeless with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences.

and I'm Queen Elizabeth

My grandfathers told me about this dream where you can make a living if you work for it. That age seems past, and I accept it, but this is the most general fear I've felt since I first started living on my own 20 years ago.

Economy, I can finally blame something else from my shortcomings.

6. Why Buffalo? Do they have a booming economy or something?
Am I missing something about Buffalo and biomedical sciences?

Good luck regardless, just curious why Buffalo? (it's damn cold there, not a lot of culture, not some kind of global mecca for sciences....)

riderinthestorm is on to him?

14. I'm curious, too -- why Buffalo? If you have family there that may help.
If it weren't for my brother and sister-in-law, I'd be on the street. When I lived in NC (when I became sick, blah blah blah) I actually looked up "how to live in your car". Only problem was, I didn't have any money to buy gas to get from place to place.

So you're mooching off your family...what else is new?

I have looked up how to live in a car. I have also looked into how to live in a tent. The problem always seems to be finding a place to actually set up where you won't be harassed or arrested. Plus the weather when it is extremely bad.

yeah, normal families don't like bums crashing their winter recitals...and things of that sort...

you should probably go back to school then... :lmao:

Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences....Pot/drugs and their myriad uses.

In other words being an insane leftist has meant you can`t hold a job anywhere even if the doctorate thing was true, which is doubtful.

Or it was dumb enough to move to large cities run by liberals with higher-than-normal unemployment rates and a difficult job market (even during good times).

There's two kinds of liberals in this world. Those that are as DUmb as a stump with no work experience and those who have spent several decades in a university. They have several advanced degrees and no work experience. A good example is Greywarrior. She is 60 and still applying for student loans for the next school year.

The island is infested with both types. What we need is a good can of RAID.

Buffalo, without a job already lined up?  He's either totally insane, or he knows where they're giving out free weed in Buffalo.  Trying to live in a car or a tent if it came to that in a Snow Belt/Rust Belt city is about the dumbest idea since 'Nutshot' videos.

What gets me is that they actually had to look up how to live in a tent!

I guess somebody's parents never took them camping before.

Just espied a pair while out getting some gas. They are easy to spot and plentiful around here this time of year but tend to migrate to warmer climes as the Autumn wind makes living under their blue plastic tarps more difficult.   This pair was definately off to an bum camp, they were going in the direct opposite direction of the NEW HOMLESS SHELTER.

Our hero of this piece seems to be going to Buffalo with its mate who is going for a job if I remember what I read.

34. A surprising number of people were curious about "why Buffalo"
My fiance wants to live there, close to her family. That basically settles it.

There are other reasons which make it agreeable. My daughter lives in Michigan, I want to stay in traveling range. I can't live in middle America, I need some kind of coast or major lake in seeing distance. The people I love are there, or near there...I have to make it work, basically. I can lose things, even lose important friends. I can't lose my daughter or fiance. I'll live in a shelter, work at a convenience store, whatever.

Thanks for bouncing ideas with me guys, this has helped remind me of my priorities.

So what you are saying is the under G.W. Bush you had a job.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Another part of me wants to . . . just smack the DUmb**** in the head with the aforementioned 2"x4". :hammer:

**** me... Get a job driving for Pizza Hut or something. Sure, your $100,000 PhD won't mean shit, but you'll have a job and some income. If it's not enough, get a second job stocking nights at a grocery store or something. Again, your PhD is worthless, but it's more money. And you have a fiancee. She can get a job or two as well. Before you know it, those $15 grand a year jobs will add up to some real money that you can live on. And eventually, you may be able to find a job in your field and you can leave them behind, grateful that you managed to survive long enough to do so.

But yeah, knowing your type, that work is "beneath you." You wouldn't deign to have a job where you aren't called "Doctor" by all the staff. Worthless DUmbass.

Oh yeah, Mr. PhD in Biomedical Sciences, it's "Americans" not "American's."  :thatsright:
