Proud mom Gisele Bundchen says Ben already potty trained!
By Gayle Fee & Laura Raposa  |   Wednesday, June 23, 2010  |  http://www.bostonherald.com  |  The Inside Track

Not that this surprises us or anything, but according to his very proud mommy, Tom Brady [stats]’s 6-month-old son is potty trained.

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, mom of superbaby Benjamin Brady, told a Brazilian Web site that, after scoring a few tips from a toilet-training manual, the newest Brady is doing his business like a big boy.

According to a translation of the Globo.com article, Benjamin - who was christened in California yesterday - does his thing like clockwork right after breast-feeding in the morning and afternoon. Leading us to wonder: Has Gi trained Benji or has Benji trained Gi?

But let’s go to the excited new mommy: “Give it about five minutes, and bang,” gushes Gi, whose twin sis, Patricia, is called in to inspect the potty deposit.

I've heard of this, and really all it means is that the parents can figure out that after the baby eats, he will have to go potty.  The baby doesn't have any control over any of those muscles, and he is just going when he wants to.  It is mom that is carefully watching and timing and holding him over the potty.  It may help with potty training later in life, but most parents manage that without holding them over the toilet after every feeding.

What I find amazing....is that this is considered "news-worthy"....or is it "comic relief"?

Hypocrite alert, how environmentally friendly can a $20 million mansion really be? from the article:

Quote
Apparently, the rush to toilet train the little QB has more to do with trying to cut down on Benjamin’s use of disposable - albeit biodegradable - diapers.

“Diapers pollute the environment,” Mrs. 12 said. “Where does this garbage go?”

And speaking of environmental irritants, Gisele also chatted about her $20 million, supposedly environmentally friendly manse in Brentwood, Calif.

“I spent literally half my life working, and, of course, I want to have a good house, a nice house,” Bundchen told the Brazilian Web site. “I’m not saying that you have to have everything, but seek green alternatives.”

Seems that cloth diapers would be just as environmentally friendly, though perhaps less cutting edge.

I have to say that I am very thankful for disposable diapers. I know they are a huge waste, but that is one modern marvel I am not willing to give up to be green. I can't even imagine disposables. I know people used them forever, and they work just fine, but disposable diapers are very convenient. I will be happy when I don't have to buy them anymore though because they are also expensive.

Ha!  We thought about doing the clothe diaper thing back when our kids were born.  Do some research on that.  The disposables are more environmentally friendly.  Seriously.

As to the 6 month old being trained.  I don't have a problem with that.  It's called Mommy trained not Potty trained.  I had a secretary that made the same claim one day ... then called me about a week later and said she would be late because the kid has pissed on her head .... while they were laying in bed.

She still tried to claim potty trained but I just laughed.

Nuclear baby poo.  No thanks.

I have a friend who does the whole cloth diaper thing.  Must be nice to have that kind of time.

That is another thing. The time involved. Back in the day, many moms didn't work. Their job was the keep up the house and take care of the kids. I work. And I am not sure daycare would do the whole cloth diaper. But it has to be time consuming and gross. Now that my baby is almost 2, the poo is nasty as all get out. It gags me now changing a poo diaper, and I just toss it in the diaper pail. I don't have to do the whole rinse and wash thing (or whatever it is you do).  But if you can stomach it, and have the time for it, good on you I guess.

I've looked into it. There are plusses and minuses to both. But the convenience plus won me over.

And yeah, the baby isn't potty trained per se. The thought process isn't there yet to be so.

I was 15 when my brother was born, and Pampers had not been around very long, and they were expensive.

My stepmom did the cloth diaper thing for several months. Not a diaper service....just a "deb" service.

Nasty doesn't even come close.... :puke:

Way back in the dark ages when I was born, besides the milk being delivered in glass bottles to the door we also had a diaper service. Mom would throw the nasties into the toilet to soak then throw them over the line to dry. Then they'd get bagged for pickup. The delivery guy would pick them up and leave a new pile at the door. I think I remember it happening twice a week. I was 5ish at the time. They were still nasty either way LOL

I did the cloth diaper thing with our first baby, because after we paid all of our bills we had about $300 a month left to live on.  It was a decision we made jointly, for me to get out of the Army since we were in Germany AND neither of us wanted someone else raising our daughter.  Plus, at the time both of us were in constantly deploying units (to the field for exercises but it still meant finding a 24/7 sitter on a very regular basis).  It does kind of amaze me all the conveniences people take for granted that our forefathers and mothers didn't have; I like to think of the dirty diaper pail as a small intro to their world.
And, I did have alot of time on my hands.  Kid slept 16 hours a day the first year of her life.  She still seems to, at age 25. :whatever:

My friend seems to be on a crusade against Pampers.  Something about rashes.

My oldest one had a horrible reaction to Pampers. Don't know what was in them, but they did a number on her. Switched to Luvs, for her, and didn't even try Pampers when my son was born. Ended up switching to Huggies, because the Luvs either went off the market or were too expensive. Don't remember.

My first born was strictly cloth. Pampers? No such animal back then. The second, my little girl, had disposables, thank goodness!

I can still see those disgusting things soaking in the toilet when I needed to take a leak! Good thing we lived out in the country!
