I think he got a 15 and an administrative rank reduction (Service Secretaries can determine the highest rank in which an individual 'honorably served' and change the grade downward, paying retirement on that lower grade; a rarely invoked power, except in cases of disgraceful conduct by senior officers), rather than a CM.

The worst I've seen was when they dropped the Vice Director of the J-Staff from 2 Star to Colonel.

Working our way downwards in rank, I very well remember the SMA Gene McKinney incident.

Sexual harassment - huge numbers of complaints - resulting in an Article 32 hearing and a CM. His Wiki article says he was acquitted of those charges, but was convicted on "Obstruction of Justice" charges, reduced to Master Sergeant and reprimanded.

This guy wound up retiring in his former SMA grade due to a law which has subsequently been amended.

I saw this guy in action shortly before I retired. At the time he was 1AD CSM. You would be hard-pressed to find a bigger piece of shit.

Last time I saw him was last October at Ft. Myer during one of the Year of The NCO celebrations.

At one point while I was in D.C. he had a civilian job at the Pentagon as well.

He was a product of the Carter years of 'De-selection' of capable mid-grade NCOs, when so many guys with potential voted with their feet, and far too many of the guys that stayed career NCOs did so because they were at least dimly aware they could never make it on the outside.  A leavening of fantastic, dedicated guys stayed in, but risk-taking and honest reporting was, shall we say, not a highly-rewarded behavior.  'Way too often dumbshits with big mouths, great PT scores, and little detectable higher brain function stayed in and became the senior NCO cohort from which that sucker came.

I would think he'd be hanging his head in shame and staying the hell away from NCO celebrations. OTOH, he would make a fine example of what NOT to be and if he were key note speaker, maybe he could talk about his transgressions and what impact those had on his career and his life.

And let's hope he's keeping his hands to himself while working as a civvie.

Funny, that sounds like a lot of the senior enlisted I encountered towards the end of the 1990's.

mid 80s and beyond......... I always shook my head at the nonsense that some Chiefs (E7) and above did. In a way, I'm glad that I never became part of that "brotherhood". I don't think I could have ever turned my head away from their misdeeds. I was a far from perfect Sailor, but those folks were ridiculous.

There are a LOT of faces that have suddenly popped up at military and Pentagon functions that were absent for the previous 8 years.

Just sayin...
