There's a poll on Fox News.... http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/06/22/decide-happen-gen-mcchrystal/#content

It's been above 60% to " 'not fire' McChrystal, that he's apologized, and move on with leading the troops" all morning.

The comments are what are the most interesting. Granted Fox leans much more conservative, but there is a variety of comments.

If this is supposed to be "Falling on his sword," he's doing a remarkably obtuse and generally shitty job of it.

Perhaps it appears so from what we know, however, McChrystal is dealing with both managing the war, and appears to have been forced into also dealing with an adversarial diplomatic situation in-country as well, both rooted in the same lack of expertise being manifested in DC.

Well, since he voted for Zer0, I guess McChrystal has a case of buyer's remorse.  Don't know what to say about all these assclowns who put that  :loser: in charge of our country except SHAME ON YOUALL. :fuelfire:

I think apologizing was a bad move.

Baghdad Bob Gibbs is holding a press conference.  I think that the tone of the questions won't leave much choice than for McChrystal to be replaced.

I can't believe a general in our Armed Forces would actually vote for a Communist. Maybe McChrystal does need to go.
I cant believe anyone here didn't know that, the only reason he got the Afghanistan gig is because he was oDUmbf***'s lapdog. And now even he turns to bite that hand, I love it.  :-)

  • Oh well, I wasn't using my civil liberties anyway.
I think apologizing was a bad move.

Me too.  I am getting weary of everyone saying something, and then apologizing for it afterwards.  Just say it and stick with it.

My son (Navy vet) thinks the general "fell on his sword" for the troops.

Said bad mouthing the CinC is against the UCMJ, and thinks he will either be court-martialled or forced to retire.

He also said McChrystal shouldn't have apologized either, because it won't make any difference to his career.

  • Where are you going? I was gonna make espresso!
Several points here:

--WTF is ANYONE in uniform doing talking to anyone from Rolling Stone?  Seriously?

--Incredibly poor form for a general officer to discuss who he voted for.

--Wasn't it the liberals who kept telling us that, "dissent is patriotic?"

--Obama can't be bothered to talk to McCrystal for 4 MONTHS regarding additional troops, but the second he hears anything negative reported about himself, he hauls him back the NEXT DAY?

--Falling on his sword or not, McCrystal screwed the pooch badly, and needs to go.

This is part of the reason why my son thought he purposely did it. And to get people to realize "that Obama doesn't give two shits about the military"....(that was a quote from son)

IMHO this isn't him falling on his sword.

This is the typical case of Liberal "gotcha" journalism...and a very crappy job of handling this embedded reporter by McChrystal's PAO.

It's no even the first time Rolling Stone has burned the Army with one of it's "free-lance" reporters.  They screwed 2nd Cav while we were in Iraq.

We (the military and PAO specifically) fall for this damn trap every time...we give these idiots complete access to "the boss" or "the troops" in a futile attempt to make the media like us.

And the reporters play right along....acting like they are our buddies...willing to hang out with us...shoot the shit...even go out to our forward bases to see how we live.

This reporter got everyone involved to drop their guard and open their mouth...and his story wrote itself.

It appears that the PA Officer never even made one attempt to proof the story or glance at it before it went out.  It's an even worse failure if the guy DID read it and blessed off on it being released.

My job is to make sure this kind of crap...whether uttered by a 4 Star General or a PFC doesn't get put in print.

First thing I teach the soldiers in my Media on The Battlefield classes...when you're with a reporter...NOTHING is off the record.

This story is what can happen if you don't take that to heart.

If McChrystal gets the axe over this...the second one standing in the unemployment line behind him is the PA officer who worked for him.

That pretty much covers it IMO.

I heard the same.  But the PAO isn't responsible for the stuff that the General himself said to the reporter.

I haven't read the article, I've only heard exceprts as reported in the news.

I don't subscribe to left wing rags like the Rolling Stone.

Makes a person wonder, don't it? Of course we should never forget Ret. general Wesley Clark.

I firmly believe this is a major reason Lord Zero and the libs want gays to openly serve in the military. They will be given special promotional treatment to avoid the "homophobe" label. As the gays move up through the ranks, this nation will eventually have a military brass that would rather perform fellatio on our enemies than kill them.

That's a bit of a stretch IMO.

Oh no doubt but I have to wonder - why would a soldier want to openly wear the "I am gay" patch on their shoulder.
What does being gay have to do with serving in the military? Unless they are after special treatment such as birthing preferences. My understanding is a reason man/woman or husband & wife are not allowed to serve together in combat and other situations because when under fire, the mate or "partner" may favor each other instead of the other soldiers when commanded thus jeopardizing the overall mission.

I don't want to hijack this thread so I will say nothing further on this matter.

I just read this on Drudge: "FLASH: According to an unnamed source 'Gen. McChrystal has submitted his resignation' - Joe Klein on Rick Sanchez, CNN... Developing..."

Perhaps... but if you look at the tenacity of the left, it would make a certain amount of sense. "They" have been planning and executing for almost 100 years, slowly taking us away from the path that lead to our freedoms to begin with. They are patient, almost methodical at times. DADT may be viewed as just one more step in the rung of neutering the military completely.... potentially over the course of decades.

Scroll on the bottom of Fox News says that Obama is waiting until he and McChrystal speak face to face tomorrow before deciding whether or not to fire him.

McChrystal's aide resigned according to the scroll....

LINK TO CNN
The CNN correspondent: "This incident is unprecedented..."
Ug! MacArthur anyone?
Of course the left will use this to denigrate and berate the military and those that REALLY support this war, like President Bush.
However, I firmly support the chain of command and NO LOOSE LIPS! If the troops are being unnecessarily endangered, then there are channels to deal with it. But I am torn because 0bama *IS* disconnected from this war. Maybe McChrystal became so frustrated he just vented. Personally, I would now lose trust in him and he probably shredded support of those in Washington that barely supported him and his policies if they ever supported him at all. Like Biden...

Just another way to weaken and bring this country to its knees.
