I no longer wish to be a part of DU

I joined DU in about February of 2009, right after President Obama was inaugurated. I had really high hopes for him and for our country at that time. And I remember, after the fatigue and horrible policies of 8 years of Bush/Cheney, the celebration and new found hope for the country that many of us felt.

I was one of those who defended Obama against the attacks of both conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats. I believed that the critics were wrong, that Obama was the smartest guy in the room, and that time would show that his centrist, pragmatic approach would be validated.

However, as events began to unfold, I started to become confused. The fact that single-payer was taken off the table in the health care debate was an early red flag for me. I didn't understand why the Democrats were STARTING with a compromise. Then I saw how women were thrown under the bus, with the whole Stupak ordeal. At that point, I began really questioning whether Obama really knew what he was doing, or that if he knew, had the best intentions of the country at heart.

blah, blah, blah...........

I really believe that most of the Obama supporters are either cynically hoping to profit from the Obama administration, or are foolishly caught in the cult of personality. Every time he makes a move to the right, right on cue, the Obama supporters move to the right. It's the Democrats who are pulling us to the right, not the Republicans. And I see people making all kinds of excuses for Democrats here that would never have been tolerated by Republicans.

Can anyone tell me how Obama has moved to the right?

There was the time that he said something about expanded offshore drilling, but that was before his plan to end all offshore drilling started with the attack on BP.
