Newsweek Intern Assigned to Review Glenn Beck Book Admits She Only Read 10 Pages
By Lachlan Markay (Bio | Archive)
Fri, 06/18/2010 - 16:13 ET
When reviewing a bestselling book, it is customary to read it first. Apparently Princeton doesn't teach that tidbit in its journalism classes anymore, as Newsweek intern (and Princeton student) Isia Jasiewicz decided she would attempt a review after reading only the first 10 pages--a fact she mentions in the last paragraph.

Does Newsweek really have such disdain for Beck that it would not only assign an intern to review what is sure to be this week's #1 New York Times bestseller (it came out Tuesday), but would print a review of a book the author didn't actually read?

I'm shocked; really I am, over NewsWeak's pathetic journalistic integrity.

I'm building up to a virtual emotional explosion of seething moral outrage.

Really I am.

Wait for it.

It's almost here.  I can feel the hatred building to it's peak even as I type this.

**** it.  Anybody else want a beer?  :cheers1:

I saw the book and want to read it.  I am waiting to hear reviews from normal sane people on here before I buy it though.

I bought it for my hubby for Father's Day.  Glenn, Pat, and Stu told me to.  And I do everything they tell me to do.  I am a zombie.  I buy gold in bulk.

Good luck with your little career with YOUR permanent label as a biased unprofessional "C.an't U.nderstand N.ew T.hings" journalist.

Oh well, there is always the New York Times - that bastion of journalistic integrity that had to lay off 50% of its work force, sell their building and now operate out of a broom closet, seen its stock value drop from $50.00+ per share to $4.65 per share in the last five years, and have to FIRE one reporter after another for "inventing" negative "stories" about President Bush.

I am amazed and all agog that a Princeton student could read 10 pages.  I suppose that is progress.

Didn't this happen with his last book, too?  Some newspaper panned it and it turns out they barely read the thing.

NewsBusters has a rather silly line at the end of their report:

Newsweek might consider employing folks who read the books they purport to review.

Um-m-m...with all due respect, the book review didn't just pop into the paper on its own, it passed multiple layers of editorial review. It was blessed every step of the way.

and the reason that Newsweek is in financial trouble? because the general public stops reading it after 10 pages too!

There is a real danger when liberals read the contents of conservative books, they waver in their convictions, they question their beliefs and horror of horrors some of them abandon liberalism all together.

Media Matters had that problem in the 90's when they first started to assigning personnel to monitor Rush.

After a month or so, sometimes even less, the monitors were turned into full fledged conservatives and quit.

They now monitor the monitors and rotate them frequently after only a few segments of a Rush broadcast. The monitors are then deeply immersed back into a liberal environment of watching MSNBC or listening to the soothing voices of NPR.
If a man dies fighting for his own freedom, it is not a sacrifice: he is not willing to live as a slave; but it is a sacrifice to the kind of man who’s willing.

I am amazed and all agog that a Princeton student could read 10 pages.  I suppose that is progress.

Well I suppose their secret is bound to get out eventually but that degree of progress is largely from teaching  lip exercises such as this:

As you know the entire head, not just the lips, of a liberal often goes numb while reading beyond a few sentences.  They are still working on a way of correcting the 'jump to conclusions' reflex also found in most libs who suffer from the reading lip numbness condition, thought to be rooted in public education. :fuelfire:

I remember when Entertainment Weekly (owned by Time Warner) put on their cover "We read Sarah Palin's Book So You Don't Have to...review inside".

Then while Going Rogue was on top of the bestseller lists, they ran other book lists for weeks....top cook books, top mystery books, top kids books, etc.

They lost thousands of subscribers for being such jerks.

Oh, heard a rumor Newsmax may buy Newsweek !

I have actually tried to contact Jasiewicz for an interview, but no response yet. I make it a rule never to call home or family sources, though I have them all. I really want to here it from her mouth as to the policy to be frank.

You betcha!  Mechelle never read 10 pages at one time in her life, I bet, and she's a Princeton AA grad.
