Sounds like Dems may let 21% cuts to Medicare doctors go through at end of year.   
   
At least that is the way I read this. This is alarming.

Even the Republicans protected doctors from these drastic 21% cuts.

Senate Democrats dismantling aid package due to deficit

President Obama's urgent plea for more spending on the economy ran into the political buzz saw of the Senate on Tuesday, where Democratic leaders began chopping apart an aid package for unemployed workers and state governments in an effort to lessen its impact on the deficit.

The slimmed-down measure was still evolving late Tuesday. But Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) was trying to salvage one of Obama's top priorities -- $24 billion to avert the layoffs of state workers -- by scaling back other pieces of the sprawling package, including a provision to postpone a scheduled pay cut for doctors who see Medicare patients. Instead of postponing the cut until 2012, Reid is considering protecting doctors only through the rest of this year.

Reid also took aim at jobless benefits, which some Democrats complained may be too generous in a time of economic recovery. While the revised package would extend emergency benefits through the end of November, aides said it also would take $25 out of the weekly checks received by 15 million unemployed workers, repealing a payment boost first approved in last year's economic stimulus package.


Not a good idea to cut doctors' payments by 21% by the end of the year.

It's already tough for Medicaid patients to be seen by a doctor, and it's getting even tougher for Medicare patients. This will just make things worse.

Medical practices have overhead to pay. Medicare claims processing is a pain in the butt (according to my sister who used to do medicare claim processing for a medical office). My guess is that many docs will give it up and leave the profession.

Becoming a physician requires many years of schooling and most docs incur huge amounts of student loan debt. They have a right to the expectation that they will be compensated for their efforts.

with all the struggle for unemployment benefits, it was obscene for those breaks for doctors to keep sailing through without a fight.

DUmmies are so stupid. They want to be well paid to sit on their asses eating Cheetos , yet they begrudge someone their well earned pay.

They have absolutely no idea the costs involved for Doctors, I worked in the medical field for 20 years and specifically in Doctors office for about 10 years. They have the costs for renting or a mortgage to own the office, the costs of computers, utilities, office staff which includes 1 person at least to do the billing, 1 person making appointments and doing referrals, a Nurse and or a CMA, supplies etc. and for the amount of time they put in at offices, consults if you're a specialist, surgery, seeing patients at the Hospital, and being assigned days at the clinic, and being on call for the ER if you're a surgeon? they don't get paid enough IMO.

Definitely, I think the left assumes that everyone who goes to med school has rich parents to pay for their entire schooling, that's not the case at all in the majority of cases, they take out loans that they have to pay back. And I don't begrudge anyone who makes money, people work hard for it, but I think in the case of Doctors it comes down to politics, Doctors lean Republican and Lawyers lean Democrat, so you see them pile on the Doctors, yet barely a peep out of them when it comes to Lawyers.

Had it been included the cost would have easily broken $1 trillion...even with the 4-year tax-to-benefit offset.

If they passed that bill on the sales pitch of a 21% cost cut then they should live with it and accept the consequences of their actions.

And that is already causing a shortage of doctors in India and other countries that already "send" doctors to the US.

Doctors who will be most affected are the ones that are already paid the least....the family practioners and the internists. As it is, Medicare payments are not enough to cover the lab expenses for most patients.

Wait til the 66yo DUmmie, or the one with the 66yo parent....tries to go to their primary care doctor, because they are really sick...only to find out that their doctor won't see them anymore because they no longer accept Medicare. They'll be piling into ER's all over the country looking for treatment.

Yeah...that HCB is gonna be workin' out real well....

It's happened with Medicaid and is happening now with Medicare. You have to go out of County in my area to find a Doctor who takes Medicaid, and increasingly Doctors aren't accepting new Medicare patients, just taking care of their existing patients.

Oh, and Justice Sotomayor's own brother doesn't take Medicaid and Medicare patients.

The solution is quite simple, make a law that says that 30% of the highest GPA students must enroll in med school and be forced to work serving the lazy ****s that voted for Obama.
