Thankfully, not everyone there is a looney tune, but this is one of the many reasons why I am no longer there. My word.

If I had a deaf child, and there was a way to change that and make him/her hear, you better believe I'd do anything in my power to make it available for my baby. Why would you not? And this whole thread was supposed to be about the joy that baby and mama got from him hearing her voice, yet there is ALWAYS someone to rain on the parade with some CRAP.

Sign language is a "culture"? it's just a means of communication, to say ASL is a culture would be like saying pig latin is cultural.

And the "autistic one" showed up with some more bullcrap. He thinks because he is autistic, he is the all knowing in every disorder, disability, etc.

Any sane person would, and like it or not, deafness is a disability, and there are some in the deaf community who are radical and demanding. A friend of mine manages a Doctors office, a deaf woman called (via TTY) to make an appt. she was on disability, after she made the appt. she informed my friend that she wanted an interpreter and according to the Americans with Disabilities Act the interpreter would have to be provided at the expense of the Doctor, my friend asked her why she couldn't bring along a friend or family member to interpret and she said she wanted an interpreter provided, my friend then turned around and told her that since she wasn't accepted as a patient yet that she would have to find another Doctor. There was no way they would take her on, since she was on Medicare reimbursement would be low and the Doctor would have to pay like $200 per hour for the interpreter and I think the interpreters have a minimum 2-3 hours that they charge for, and you have to pay for travel time.

25. Those of us in the Autism rights comminity are frightened by things like this.
First they are destroying the Deaf community, then are we next?

You know what's so amazing about this statement? under Obamacare people with disabilities won't even be born, testing would be done on woman who are pregnant and if your baby has a disability you'll be encourage to abort because no way will the money be there for people with special needs, and if there's a test to detect autism in the womb? those babies will be aborted too.

I opted not to have the test done while I was pregnant. It wouldn't have mattered the results. Even though I have made it clear I am pro-choice. And I am not arguing that again. And this isn't about that at all.

How can someone look at that video and see anything but joy?

I would never abort either, I'm pro-life though anyway.

The baby was absolutely adorable, and I'm glad to see sanity prevail in that thread.

Simple, Soleil.  Leftists, socialists, democrats, and such all practice a PhD philosophy.  PhD meaning Pull him (or her) Down, meaning that if someone advances beyond their means or overcomes any problem be it medical, social, financial, mental, or whatever they need to be brought back down to "their proper place".

Leftists are much like crabs.

My husband & I were so thankful our daughter was born when she was.  We found out at our 20 week ultrasound that she had bi-lateral clubbed feet.  We were recommended to a podiatrist and her feet look like they never came out clubbed.  It was so amazing.  No surgery!

We were just discussing how different things may have turned out if this were 2016 though.  Would I have been forced to get an abortion just because my child didn't have "normal" feet in the womb?

It's so sad.  :(

My nephew was born with severe clubbed feet. They were both facing backward. He is just a couple of months younger than my baby girl. He has had several surgeries, and his feet are looking good these days. He is 19 months, and it looks like he might end up with "normal" feet after it is all said and done. They knew he was going to have that issue, but it certainly never mattered as far as him still being here.

The day we found out, we started doing research and looking at all the options we had.  We went with the Ponsetti method.  It's a series of casts.  After that, our daughter had (and still does) wear special shoes with a bar.  It's to help keep her feet set in the correct position so they do not relapse.  She has to wear them nightly until she's three years old.  It sucks, but she doesn't really seem to mind.  She's just used to it now.

Yes, my nephew wears those as well. We were worried if he could ever walk, but they straightened up nicely. The casts were sad. Such a tiny baby wearing casts. Doesn't seem right, BUT it did help. He had to have his achilles cut, and the feet were placed properly. I don't know all the ins and outs of it, but I know my brother was traveling to Ohio (I think, or Iowa) where there was this big woo-woo doctor who studied this extensively. IT seems to have worked. Fingers crossed. It was apparently one of the more severe cases. It is amazing what we can do these days with our advancements.

Glad your baby girl has adjusted well too!

There are people who have abortions for cleft lips, it's ridiculous because it's so easily corrected, but like you said, under Obamacare? the abortion is cheaper.

My beautiful almost 8mo old granddaughter was born with a heart murmur, a "clicking" hip, and one little foot was at a 90 deg angle to her leg.

Her foot is now fine, so's the heart murmur. The hip thing is hereditary, her daddy just had a hip transplant back in Feb and he will turn 30 the end of this month...but she will learn to deal with it, just as her Daddy and Mamaw have... with hip replacements.

Guess it's a good thing she was born last October and not in a couple of years from now....
