The next person under the bus will be Maureen Dowd
« on: June 13, 2010, 11:40:53 AM »
Quote
...The former constitutional lawyer now in the White House understands that the press has a role in the democracy. But he is an elitist, too, as well as thin-skinned and controlling. So he ends up regarding scribes as intrusive, conveying a distaste for what he sees as the fundamental unseriousness of a press driven by blog-around-the-clock deadlines.

The 21st-century press beast is a scary multimedia monster, caught up in the trite as well as the vital, and reporters rarely can be as contemplative as the cerebral Obama would like.

Sometimes on the campaign plane, I would watch Obama venture back to make small talk with the press, discussing food at an event or something light. Then I would see him literally back away a few moments later as a blast of questions and flipcams hit him.

But that’s the world we live in. It hurts Obama to be a crybaby about it, and to blame the press and the “old Washington game” for his own communication failures. ...

Wow, the world is ending and I think Dowd is actually right about Obama.  :o  Obama is very elitist and controlling.

First off, Maureen, quit hitting the sauce.  Obama was NEVER a, "Constitutional lawyer."  He was an ADJUNCT, which is a nice way of saying a REAL law professor's bitch.  He got the professor's coffee, did his errands, and if he was lucky, got to grade a few first-year student papers.

Saying he was a law professor is like saying an undergraduate TA is a professor.

Well zeit, you know where I work.  And on the corner of Route 107 and Route 1 (just south of the CVS) is what we at the Homer Simpson Training Facility (aka Seabrook power plant) call the Yellow Conference Center.  It's been known as many things, but is currently a sports bar.

Stop in there any given afternoon around 4 PM and you'll find that aside from the bartenders (who are quite hot indeed) there ain't no wimmens anywhere near the look level of Maureen...Dowd.

Tragic, really.

Adjunct professors teach classes.   They are hired per class on contract and not actually staff of the college.

One would think that a professor of any type would know the details of the topic in which he professes...

You're a good sport Sparky.   Having been there for some time now I am sure you know what the best thing to come out of Seabrook is, right?  Route 107 !!  Then there is the breeding or more correctly inbreeding that goes on there. I think it is what they mean when they say all you find is fouler eatin in Seabrook.

But to be series Hugh, lets give credit where credit is due.  Without Jimma, TMI, and, the Clam Shell Alliance, today we would have power too cheap to meter.  (That was the catch phrase when I built my first 'all electric' home.  No chinmey for me the power would be free!!)

I can still remember when the power costs began to skyrocket and people were throwing in woodstoves.  Masons couldn't keep up with the number of 'all electric' homes needing chimneys.  Firemen couldn't keep up with chimney fires.  What a wonderful time with Carter at the helm.

I'll reserve judgement on that until he releases his college transcripts and discloses who paid his freight.

Bottom line, calling him a law professor is a gross overstatement.  I had junior TA's (unpaid, of course) doing lab and lecture when I was a freshman.  Doesn't make them professors either.

TAs are grad students.  Adjunct professors have a master's degree at the very least, most have PhDs.  They usually have full time jobs, but teach at colleges part-time.   There are some outstanding and brilliant adjunct professors.

What ever happend to Cujo.??  Is his neighbors still throwing their limbs in his front yard??  Is Cujo still in charge of Boston as he said.?    I liked that guy, he hung on when some oldie grumpy neighbor raked leaves into his back yard and the neighborhood kids stole car parts from his neighbors cars.  I miss hm.

And there are some total lunkheads who got there with LOTS of help.

Oh, and not all TA's are grad students, sorry.  I did have undergrad TA's when I was a freshman at GT.  Granted, they were smarter than the average student there (which is certainly saying something substantial) but not all were grad students, particularly at the freshman level courses.
