The Flat Tax
   
"A few days ago, Craig examined the Fair Tax which is a tax system based largely on sales tax. Today, I will examine the pros and cons of the Flat Tax which is a tax system based on income taxes with everyone paying the same rate. Because everyone pays the same flat rate and loopholes are eliminated in the process, everyone pays in and everyone pays less than they do under the current system. Estimates often suggest a tax rate of 10-15%. Compare that to current rates.

Often, it is rejected out of hand as a regressive tax. At one time, I too recited the usual talking points on the issue. But after examining the issue during my undergraduate career, I began seeing it in a different light. And in recent years, a few liberal economists (a tiny minority) have begun to soften their position on the issue. The fact is that people would pay the same rate so by definition it is not a regressive tax. A regressive tax is one where those with lower incomes pay relatively more. Under a Flat Tax system, everyone would pay the same."

imagine everybody, all of us, paying taxes.  every step of the way. 

oh,  wait?  that is already what it is. 

you wake up in the morning?  flush your toilet?  you are taxed.  go buy a cup of coffee?  you are taxed.  buy some gas?  you are taxed. make a phone call? you are taxed.  buy a paper? you are taxed.  your stock comes in?  you are taxed.  give some of that windfall to you kin?  you are taxed.  earn your paycheck?  you are taxed.  log onto the internet?  you are taxed.  eat in a a restaurant?  you are taxed.  take a cab home? you are taxed.

each and every step you take, each and every day. you are taxed.

what more can they do to tax us more? 

what  everyday transaction is available to them anymore?

I hear there's a "By the Mile" tax in the works for that. The long distance users will pay more.

What the dumbasses don't realize is if everyone is taxed at the same percentage the evil rich will still pay more than the noble poor people. 10% of 1 million is much more than 10% of 16K. Also if we just took 10% off the top of everyone's income every pay day, there will be no need for the IRS to be so big. In theory the IRS can be a skeleton crew that just makes sure employers are sending in the dough. This could save billions in govt spending.

Currently the democrats are trying to take a majority of the voters off the tax rolls that way they can tax the piss out of the rich and not have to worry about not getting the votes to keep their jobs.

We already do.  It's called highway tolls and gas taxes.
