British Drivers Need Help Crossing Scary Bridge

Road users unable to use the bridge or tunnels because of vertigo and claustrophobia had previously been able to be accompanied at the crossing.

RADCEP member Jeffrey Goodwin said the thought of using either the tunnel or bridge without assistance left him 'petrified'.

He explained he and other drivers had been unable to use the crossings since the service had stopped.

"One in 10 people suffer from a fear of heights and you just can't change that fear," he told BBC Essex.

Ever drive up to Cripple Creek, Leadville or Independance Co.? Ever drive the Old Stage Coach Rd. or Phantom Canyon Road in Co.?  My wife couldn't even take pictures out of rthe window on some switchback turns. Yet she could have driven it if required, and crosses bridges without quam. Therse azzhat Brits are lying and fussing about for the ATTENTION their utterly vacant lives otherwise lack. Put them in stocks in the public square for a day or two alowing small children to pelt them with rotten vegetables, and BINGO, the fear of hights will be cured!

Perhaps they should try crossing the Mackinaw Bridge in a 38 foot motorhome, in a 25-knot crosswind.......hint, the center two lanes are open steel grid, and you can see right through them......

If that doesn't cure you, nothing will.....

I've crossed that bridge dozens of times when we lived in Michigan, and didn't know that.......

I'm not afraid of heights, but that bridge has a very high "pucker factor", as there are usually high winds in the straits, and the main span can swing twenty feet in the wind......not to mention the center road bed, where you are looking through at the water a couple hundred feet below.....

I read at that article about a Yugo that stopped on that center road bed and a wind gust blew up through that and blew it off the bridge.

Eff That. 

I would find a ferry or fly.   :-)
